Antique Wooden Patent Beehive Paint Decorated Folk Art

This is a wonderful antique wooden beehive from the mid 1800’s. The hive is in amazing condition and is greatly marked by the maker with patent date. The hive is all soft wood with several hinged openings, wood be a very nice piece to display and use for convenient storage. A nice diminutive size, 21″ wide x 23 3/4″ high x 12 1/2 deep. The top opens with a hinged lid. The bottom opens with a hinged and latched lid. The bottom half of the back or front opens with a hinged lid. There are several repairs made to the piece, mostly in spots that had strain or heavy use. You can detect these by looking at the lighter colored wood in photos. The front trim on the top and the wood latches on the bottom. The overall condition is original and amazing. Found in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Paint Decorated Miniature Blanket Chest or Document Box New York State, Folk Art

Beautiful little paint decorated miniature blanket chest or document box. The paint decoration is similar to one found in New York State. The box features a unique painted pattern on the front and sides in shades of salmon, red, green and yellow. It has wire hinges, a till inside, a nice base molding and delicately turned legs. This is a quality reconstruction made from old vintage poplar and pine. The back is unpainted. There is damage to the inside back edge of the top. (See photo) The dimensions are: 9-3/4″ wide x 5-1/4″ tall x 3-1/2 deep (front to back). There are scrapes and small dents. This is a very nice miniature chest. Antique folk art paint decorated brides box signed Miss Gracie Elizabeth, Erie

Antique paint decorated folk art brides box in deep green with flowers and foliage in green, red, orange, yellow, white, blue and many shades of these. It is typical of Scandinavian boxes with oval lapped construction carved post on the ends that hold the lid tight and used by finger pressure to. Lid is painted and has a bentwood handle with split tails on each end to line up with carved posts. Lid is 9 3/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches wide and is beveled edged. Inscription inside says Miss Gracie Elizabeth and l think Erie. If so possibly made in Pennsylvania by Scandinavian immigrants. Lid looks lit white pine sides and bottom are a tighter grained pine. Perhaps made in the old way using similar woods and new world wood on combination. A common practice in Pa and all of America. Very nice box in very fine original paint wonderful polychrome color. Old split on lid is glued and very sound. All my items are fresh picked from local estates and small sales. Small dome top document box decorated with wall- stenciler’s patterns. 19th century, constructed of poplar with original hinges and hasp lock. Nice and clean inside. Measurements are: 11-1/4″ wide x 5″ tall x 7-1/8 deep. The box is an original early document box with later paint decoration and a nice dry surface. The box features a red background with compote motif on the front and top along with fancy stenciled borders. Wear to the top and scratches and wear to the front and sides.
