Miniature Paint Decorated Blanket Chest, Trinket Box or Document Box Folk Art

Miniature paint decorated chest with a cut-out bracket base and red and yellow swag and tassel decoration. This box reminds me of painted tinware. The box is a reconstruction made from vintage oxidized pine. The black base paint is original and the paint decoration is a newer addition. It has brass hinges and bumps and bruises and wear. There is paint loss to the front of the box. It measures only 8-3/4″ wide x 5-3/4″ tall x 3-3/4 deep (front to back). Please view all of the pictures and ask any questions that you might have. Mexican Folk Art Wood Dowry Chest Baul Box Colonial Furniture Painted Birds 17

This is a rare piece and a beautiful example of Mexican / Spanish colonial folk art. It is a hand-made, and hand-painted, barrel top chest (baul) from the state of Guerrero. The chest is intricately painted on all sides with stylized deer and birds and f. Bold colors and a rich waxed finish. There are no hinges or hardware. The arched top just sits on the base, but you can easily add a hinge if you want one. Overall the piece measures 13″ tall by 17″ wide and 12 deep. Both boxes are the same size. Olinala is famous for its production of fine chests (bauls), gourds and furniture, which are intricately painted. This piece too is from the Rio Balsas river region in Southern Guerrero, home to the Nahua Indians that paint these pieces in the same style as the amate bark paintings. Coffers and chests (bauls) were often intended as dowry chests used to store valuables. A fabulous capsule of colonial culture and indigenous folk art. Antique Danish 1725 Dowry Wedding Chest Trunk w Painted Folk Art 295 YEARS OLD

Recently brought over from Scandinavia. A Beautiful Example of a Danish Wedding Trunk Chest. Dated On the front 1725. Beautiful folk art painted motifs on the front panels. UNBELIEVABLE CONDITION for being 295 YEARS OLD! The trunk is covered in hand carved designs throughout. The Hardware has been repainted. The base of the trunk had been reinforced at each corner with triangle blocks. Iron strapping with heavy iron handles. The boards are super old and appears that newer nails were used in some places to secure them. Opens and closes perfectly. There is no key. The interior is in great condition with a side box and a small shelf located below the box. The trunk is super large and super heavy. There are some 4 2×4 blocks that were secured underneath the chest to solidify it before we bought it. It is very old and that keeps the Dovetail joints in place. H 40 with the base. Wo base 26 1/2. Has normal usage wear mainly to the lid but this is very old and was used. There is a split in the bottom and there seems to be an extra piece of wood nailed to the inside of the lid.
