Antique Folk Art Painting Native American Subject Bear Hunting. Oil on canvas Painting measures 27 1/4″ x 21″ As framed 32″ x 25 1/2″ Signed “Siebke”. This painting is beautiful, and projects the action and intensity of the scene very well. It shows a Native American astride his rearing horse as he draws his bow to defend against an attacking bear. Interestingly, it appears that only three or four colors where used when painting this. Despite the toned down color scheme, the artist has managed to portray the time of day as being dawn or twilight. The style of the painting reminds me of the covers of old Western pulp novels. I would feel pretty confident dating this as pre-1930. There is a small very hard to notice tear in the canvas measuring about 1/2 This would be a pretty easy repair for someone who knows what they are doing. When viewed from the front, it is difficult to notice unless you are looking for it. Early Aafa Antique Folk Art American Apothecary Cabinet Original White Paint

EARLY AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART AMERICAN APOTHECARY CABINET ORIGINAL WHITE PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful twenty-five drawer apothecary cabinet. It has 25 equal sized drawers each with its own porcelain knob pull. The color is aged white with lot of paint loss, rubs, scrapes and patina. The paint appears to be all original although there might be more than one coat, it’s hard to tell! What a great look! 27.25 W at the top x 7.5 W x 24.25 H. Rawers measure: 3.75 W x 5.75 D x 3.25 H. The cabinet weighs 37 lbs. The top is one piece of wood and it has worn too over the ages. The back is made of five pieces of wood. There are tons of rusty round nails in the back of the cabinet. It’s very clean inside considering its age. The drawers have white porcelain knobs with little slotted screws. The knobs and screws have a lot of paint on them also as you can see in the pictures. Some of the drawers have writing on them on the outside of the drawers which you can’t see once they are slid in to the cabinet. Most of the writing is in pencil and says things like. You can see where a couple of drawers don’t close up to the top of the cabinet and there’s a little gap between the cabinet and the drawers. All the drawers work well, though. We don’t know the age of this cabinet but it looks old to us! You make the call. It is a wonderful and one of a kind item! There are nicks, scrapes, dings, edgewear, chunks, paint loss, paint chips, and some chips on the upper right side as you can see in the pictures but nothing you wouldn’t expect from an item of this age. Description: Up for sale is this very interesting American oil on canvas painting. Dating circa 1880 the frame is period and was manufactured in Philadelphia. Note paper label still attached. Depicts a mother and child walking through the snow to reach a home in the distance. The woman is carring a bundle of kindling on her back. Two lights shine from the home in the distance leading the way. Painting is unsigned as is often the case with folk art. Interesting to think that this scene would have been typical for the time: one’s ability to stay warm through the winter was directly dependant on your ability to bring in enough wood to keep from freezing.
