Early American Folk Art Oil Painting Farm Malden on Hudson New York 1850 Ulster
This delightfully naive glimpse of Early American life is painted in oil on paper glued down to a wooden (single board) panel with old mustard paint on the back. Housed in its original lemon gold frame (old surface with many touch-ups), it measures a most impressive 27″ x 32 1/2″ framed; 22″ x 27″ actual and is rich with meticulously drawn and painted details. Reminiscent of the works of Joseph H. In the Bigelow Blue Stone Works located nearby. The painting shows considerable age-toning and staining with areas of slightly raised/wrinkled paper showing lines of loss and paper losses in both lower corners and right edge. The surface is stable and the colors come across nicely despite some loss of contrast with the background. The fragile label is under protective plexiglas.
