This is a charming and wonderful Antique Black African American Modern Folk Art oil painting on wood board, by Florida artist, B. This work depicts a rural Southern country scene, with two children in the foreground, and a red back house and hanging laundry swaying in the background. To the upper right of the children is a quaint wooden house, with two women, presumably the mothers, chatting and socializing. Acquired from a deceased estate in Southern Florida. Kleinberger and dated 69 in the bottom right corner of the painting. Painting is in great shape, and frame has a few minor scuffs on the edges from age. Approximately 20 3/8 x 22 7/8 including frame. Thomson Georgia African American Oustider Artist Jake JT McCord Figural Painting

A native of Thomson Georgia, McCord took up painting on a whim and later on became known as one of Georges most beloved outsider artists. This painting features a woman with big blonde hair causally relaxing in a rocking chair. Quite the southern leisurely past time. She has big round eyes which gaze directly at the viewer. Just a charming lovely painting by this exceptional outsider artist. Painted on a large ply panel board and signed by the artist and dated 2003. Some wood splintering on bottom panel which could be the way it was originally painted on. Measurements: 48 x 32. McCord was born December 28, 1945. From the 1970s on, he lived in Thomson, Georgia, cutting grass for the city in the summer & driving a truck in the winter. McCord had been born at the family farm in Lincoln County, where his whole family, including Jake & his 11 brothers worked planting & picking crops. Reportedly he started painting in 1984, after he saw “some white ladies taking painting lessons at the Hawes Paint Store” in Thomson. He didn’t get a key to the trunk with the car, and it took him weeks of working at the lock with a screwdriver to get it open. In the trunk, he found a board on which someone had attempted a painting like the ladies in the paint store. Jake decided he could do better, so he took the board out and painted his own picture over it. His first subject was an alligator he saw on television, a source from which he derived most of his inspiration. As a rule, he painted on plywood nailing his finished paintings to the wall, under his covered porch. His bright, bold, humorous paintings were usually painted on boards, & his favorite subjects were farm animals, cats, dogs, houses, & women with big hairdos. He claimed his art was just for fun. Mid century likely African American folk art painting circa 1960 modernism

Crawford (middle initial looks like “G”, could be another letter). Came from an estate in the Philadelphia area. Gouache and/or watercolor, possibly mixed media: on board. Approx 15″ X 21″ (including frame). Beautiful period, wood frame. Most likely mid century. Has aspects of modernism with a special folk art quality. I believe this artist is probably African American. I researched the address in Philadelphia where the artist lived (see photos). My friend, who is a well regarded art dealer also feels the artist is likely African American. Wonderful design element with the sun shining through the middle of the mountain range. Very beautiful, deep colors. Excellent composition, with a unique arrangement of the house, the cows and the layering of the field. Highly original work of art. I opened it to take better photos. See photo # 6, which reveals the full painting without the mat. I think with restoration, the mat lines for framing can easily be restored. I don’t think it is stain from the mat, but the lines that the framer drew when placing the mat. It does work as is, with the mat as seen in the other photos, though I rather like the larger, more complete painting when the mat is removed. Otherwise, very fine condition for it’s age. All are approximately 12.5 x 9.5 inches. All painted on different thicknesses of’construction’ paper. 3 out of 4 signed by different artists, but as you can tell- they are likely from the same tribe. Native Painting from the Belgian Congo. Expressionism and Abstract. African Tribal Mid Century Congo Warriors. Primitive feeling was typical of the 1950’s and is an excellent example of the work that began to come out of the Belgian Congo at that time. Each is signed by a different artist and come from the Nyange tribe in the Belgian Congo. In 1960, the Congo had declared independence and the half century European romance with the region was coming to a sudden close and being pro-colonialism or appearing to exploit their image carried new social implications. It is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are in excellent condition for their age. Comes from a non-smoking home. Dimensions: 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. PETI CLEMENTS African American Folk Art Paintings; a very nice painting from Petites Peti on Canvas Signed. 8″ by 10.5″ with frame. Peti Clements lived and worked in Birmingham, AL and these were probably painted in the 1970’s to early to mid 1980’s time frame. Clement was raised on a rural Alabama farm and many of her works depict the scenes of her early everyday life. The Tennessee Valley Art Museum has a wonderful collection in their permanent collection. Clements was born on August 6, 1911 and died November 25, 19999, but her art lives on.
