Circa second-quarter 19th century large, thick walled oval pantry box in original Green paint with some blue notes probably from oxidation. Two fingers from right-to-left, top of lid with initials “EK” in original mustard. Folky, great untouched dry surface, nice patina throughout. One bottom end with damage and minor loss (see pics 13 & 14). Sturdy old box with tight fitting lid. Generously sized at approx 12″L x 10″W x 3.5H. Antique 19thC NEW ENGLAND PANTRY BOX CELERY-GREEN PAINT AAFA Folk Art Primitive. Recently brought home from New Hampshire: One of the best pantry boxes I’ve handled as far as surface and form go (and size to boot). It’s approx 8″W across the top (by) 5.75″H. Early 19th century, no later than 1840. Original color was probably yellow or white which oxidized to a wonderful and unusual celery-heart-green. Chunky, thick, swamped with patina. Long, slender fingers of opposing arrangement snug to the body with symetrically placed iron nails. Body with straight, nailed seam. Flared and chamfered handle, carved mushroom pegs. Top and bottom boards are nailed not pegged. Shaker-quality craftsmanship with said characteristics, it may be Hingham-made but certainly New England origin (not signed). The handle in its down position resisted the elements which would redefine the surrounding surface over decades, when lifted you can see the yellow under it (see last pic). Rare 19th C Antique Folk Art Carved Horse Handheld Stick Toy Original Paint AAFA. Offered today is a Rare and possibly Unique Carved and Painted Childs. Hand-held Horse stick toy. Carved and painted wood, appears to be pine. Guaranteed antique and not a reproduction. The wonderful form of a horse’s body with wonderful facial details. And real hair for the mane. Age appropriate wear throughout for a child’s toy of this age. The folk art qualities of this example are outstanding and. I, for one, can envision a Prior-Hamblin portrait of a child. Holding this, his/her favorite horse stick toy. Condition is as expected… Wear and scuffs to paint, hairline crack to the neck, original horsehair is thinning and loose, repair and replacement to some of the leather. All/any repairs/replacements are old, done a long time ago. Wonderful carved details to the horse’s head, signs of a masterful carver. Unique and possibly one of a kind! Size: 7-1/2″ long x 2″ thick x 4-1/2 high (figure dimensions). Overall length with handle is 16-1/2. Untouched surface with rich patina and traces of original paint. The date 1789 carved en verso, the date is under the patina/paint and not through it (important to note). It was once footed but now only a single foot remains. Pegged with a few later nails. Another unique feature is the double wrought iron blades. Antique Painted Folk Art Wall Comb Box Lancaster County, Pa. Circa late 19th cen. A wonderful folk art comb box in original dark green paint with red polka dots. A small group of these wall boxes, all very similar in form and pattern of decoration, are likely from a single maker in the Lancaster County, Pa region during the late 19th century. In fine original condition having, with the exception of one tiny brad. No restoration or repair. The paint has a lovely, very fine overall cracklature yet is not flaking. I’ve include a photo of another box by the same maker for reference, this listing is for the dark green box with red dots. Satisfaction guaranteed, original and as represented.
