Rare Antique Alpheus Keech Folk Art Mini Canoe Paddle Paint Decorated AAFA. Offered today is a Rare Antique Miniature canoe paddle with Original Paint Decorated scene titled “Camping”. Signed “camping” “1000 Islands”. Measures 21-3/4″ long x 2-3/8″ wide. Highly collectible and sought after for their folk art qualities. NO repairs or in-painting/touchups. Keech paddles are well known to collectors of rustic accessories. They are appreciated for their finely-detailed, painted scenes, as well as for the delicate quality of each carved paddle. They date from 1890 to 1920 and can turn up anywhere in the U. And Canada, since they traveled home with far-flung vacationers who had visited upstate New York. The maker of these paddles was Alpheus E. Lawrence River in the 1000 Islands region of northern New York. When he was 30 years old, while still making a living as a carpenter in the familys boat-building business, Alpheus began focusing his talents as an artist. In addition to producing large paintings of steamships, sailboats, and landscapes, he established a studio (pictured below) to make and sell small souvenirs, the most popular of which were his paint-decorated model canoe paddles. Small pull on lid with carved seat for it to rest nearly flat when not in use. Possibly so it could be stacked with others, or just the box’s maker being creative. Lockable originally but it had some work done to it sometime in the 1800’s (see square nails in patch pics 13-15). It’s approx 7″W x 6″H. AAFA EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART BAIL HANDLE BITTERSWEET PAINTED PANTRY BOX. Up for sale is this beautiful 19th Century Early bail handle pantry box in original paint. We love the old Early paint and great patina on this beautiful bail handled pantry box. It’s round and has a round lid. The handle has a wood grip to grab it by and a wire handle. The wire goes in to the pantry box at the sides at a little metal escutcheon. The top has a piece of wood missing off the rim as you can see in the pictures. The bottom of the pantry box has some dings nicks and scrapes as you can see in the pictures. Inside it’s very clean but does have a little “old” smell to it inside. It has some age and wear, wood loss, paint loss, dents, scratches and minor cracks but is still solid. It measures 11.25″ in diameter and about 6.5″ high. It weighs about 2 lbs. EARLY AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE WOOD TOY CHILD’S SLED WITH ORIG RED PAINT. Up for sale is this cute large child’s sled. It’s in great condition for his age. It is a wood sled on the large, heavy duty size with metal runners underneath. It has heavy duty metal rings and iron protectors on the front and heavy duty metal struts holding the sled up from the runners. The sled is a nice red color which looks to be its original color. The paint is all rough and alligatored as you can see in the pictures. As you’d expect, there are scuffs and paint loss, rust, fading, scrapes, scratches, nicks, cracks, dings, worn off edges, edge wear, smudges and patina! What a great look!! It’s been well-loved and probably has lots of miles of downhill slides on it!! We’re not real sure how you steer it so we hope whoever had it was hanging on! On the back you can see that the wood has deteriorated over time. The tails of the wood are worn, missing and chewed up. The rest of the wood has cracks and has dried out over time. It measures 55″ L x 23″ W x 7.5 high. It’s VERY heavy and weighs about 34 lbs. !! We hope this helps! We will do our best to answer your questions. Thank you for looking at this item.
