This is a wonderful and captivating small painting measuring 13.5″ x 11″. It’s signed “MAC” and has a Horrace Pippin look and feel to it. It looks to me to be from the 1920s – early 30s. If you like Pippin but can’t get hold of them at the prices they bring, this would be a nice alternative.

This hand painted oil on board depicts a wood cabin on the edge of a swamp. There are cypress trees in water as well as a large oak with Spanish moss dramatically drooping down. The atmosphere is one of peace and remote living, close to nature. The work is done in simple strokes and has an overall primitive quality. Condition is good, the piece is housed in a gilt wood frame with a canvas mat with a newer stinger. Measurements are: sight size 15 1/2″ by 11 1/2″. Framed 19″ by 15″.
