By the AMERICAN SCHOOL (20th Century). Signed lower left R. Very good vintage condition. Canvas size: 17in x 21in. He was educated at the University of Florida and the University of the Americas in Mexico, graduating cum laude in June 1961 with a degree in International Relations. From 1961 until 1974, his work required extensive travel in the Southeast for Gulf Oil. In 1964, Smith began painting as a hobby, experimenting with various techniques and styles. He eventually developed his distinctive realistic primitive style. In May 1974, he obtained a license to set up his easel in Jackson Square, Louisiana, where he depicted scenes of southern country life on canvas.
