You can see the damage in the sky. There is a small hole or spot and line in one section. I think it is typical of the age. I don’t know if someone has sealed it, or not. Use the zoom feature. She was an artist who painted lighthouses, I think she framed it in the 1970s. This is not her style. I believe it is 1909. Image size is approximately 9 x 11 1/2 inches. Antique Early African American Portrait Prosperous Handsome Black Man Folk Art

This attractive and exceptional rarity in oil on canvas measures 34 1/8″ x 24 1/2″ framed; 30″ x 24″ actual and depicts a handsome and affluent young African American gentleman wearing a dark coat with large brass buttons, a colorful wastcoat and black cravat. Dating from the 1840’s-50’s, the naively painted portrait has great presence and presents a confident man with close-cropped hair and intense gaze. It was cleaned and relined in the 1980’s (the era of the frame) and you will note extensive in-painting in the background and to his suit lower right. There is apparent bitumen crazing in his hair and neckwear and there is NO apparent inpaint to the face/head. There is notable separation of the original canvas from the lining canvas, especially upper left and the paint layer is stable overall. Pair of Original Flower Paintings on Scrap Wood Expressionist Folk Art. Both paintings will come with hanging wires on the back. Both paintings measure approximately 12×13 in but the plywood they are painted on is irregular in shape since it is scrap wood. These were painted after I was last in an art gallery. I hope to soon be displaying my art in or around the Charlotte North Carolina area. Below is an excerpt from my personal website. Mikah Keith Braman is an artist living in the western North Carolina area. Pre-2020, his art was displayed in a gallery. His paintings and prints are in homes across America. Art, to me, is merely a tangible manifestation of a creative thought, in my case, paint strokes on a variety of surfaces ranging from fabric canvas and board to scrap materials. The images eternalize a moment, a thought process in time, to be interpreted by the viewer relative to their own perspective and unique journey in life. Nearly one hundred percent of what I paint derives from conscious and subconscious image-invoking thoughts, emotions, and feelings that I feel at the time of execution. Vivid colors and bold brush strokes combine to create vibrant, imperfect subjects, reflecting the vivid, imperfect, but beautiful world we live in. I draw from my inner feelings, preponderances, and observances, rendering them onto canvas with hopes of connecting to that imperfection in all of humankind, while simultaneously appealing to that innate desire for beauty that exists in most of us. I enjoy savoring the delicacies of new cultures, new experiences and the beauty that surrounds us. Art rendered, whether rendered in angst, anger or love can be a beautiful thing to behold.
