This offering is for an antique mid 19th century folk art painting of a rooster. The artwork was done using real feathers and watercolor on paper detailing. The frame size is app. 10″ by 13″ and the sight size is app. 6.5 by 9. There is a very small V shaped tear at the bottom in the grass. Otherwise the condition is excellent with very minor wear to the artwork but no rips, tears or repairs. Vintage Mexican Ex Voto Tin Painting Retablo, Young Family, Cortazar Gto, ca1940

Submitted for your thoughtful consideration: Ex-votos are a scene depicting a tragedy or someone with a grave illness or injury, saint or martyr that intervened to ” save the day ” and an inscription describing the tragic event and giving thanks for the divine intervention. Typically the saint depicted is. Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos. Late last year (2019) a couple of really old antique dealers had to downsize from their home on the San Francisco Peninsula. These examples of Mexican Faith and Folk Art are part of that collection. They were all wrapped in Mexican newspaper dated in the early 70? Some of my collector friends looked at them, informing me that they are all vintage and not the reproductions which abound in the market place. This lovely scene with the young couple and their child, is wonderfully painted, from Cortazar, Gto and dated 1940. There is wax on the surface, which we assume is from the candles at the church.
