It has probably never been cleaned and would brighten up if done so. There is a line of grime and decay at the frame line as pictured where dirt was allowed to accumulate. The exterior part of the frame is in fine original condition; the gilding and gesso on the interior filet has largely worn away. He began his career decorating antique New England furniture with his wife Martha Farham. In 1953 the New York socialite Joan Whitney.
