Spanish Colonial work (New Mexican origin); painting appears to have been made c irca late 19th century to early 20th century; hand-crafted frame/cabinet – vintage, circa mid-20th century. Cabinet/frame: hand-worked decorative light gold-toned metal, possibly brass, covers the face of a painted hand-made wood curio/relic cabinet. The door to the cabinet serves as a frame to the icon. Done in traditional style of’tin’ work, there are multiple decorative elements along the cabinet borders. Additionally, from the top, set under the’peak’ of the cabinet, is the winged figure of Satan falling. On the sides, narrow mirrors set into the metal are angled around the opening to the cabinet; these small mirrors enhance the picture. Subject: Saint Michael defeating Lucifer in battle.
