Vintage Tin Ex Neon Cabins Sign Folk Art Old Paint Shipping Available
This ex neon sign must have looked very cool all lit up, because now in its post neon condition it still has an amazing look. Found in New England this dates from sometime in the early 1900’s to the mid century. The tin is in very solid good condition, only missing the two trap doors on the bottom. The sign hangs from two iron hooks and is not a heavy sign. Cabins sign is 72″ long x 17″ high, add 10″ for the hangers, and is 7 1/2″ thick. Like us on face book. Antique Wooden Carved and Painted Policeman Whirligig Folk Art
A wonderful carved and painted folk art whirligig with policemen. Each policeman is carved differently and are different sizes from 12″ to 13″ tall. Each has a tin hat and two have tin badges. The form and surface are fantastic and show wear from being in weather. Hints of red paint there were strips on their pants can be seen. The arms move freely as the policemen also rotate freely. We found this piece in New England and feel it was created somewhere in that region. The overall size of the whirligig is 24″ high on the folk art iron stand and 27″ wide. Though faded, the year 1877 is still visible on the inside of the door. We found this piece in Eastern Latvia, a region that was part of Russia in 1877. Please note the delicate carvings and traditional painted design. The interior shelving has been added so that it can hold a TV but it can easily be changed to suit any purpose. A wonderful piece of Americana folk art.. Microscopic analysis of the wood proves it to be white pine. What a proud looking rooster he is! Totally hand carved with excellent detail. The glass eyes look amazing. This old boy has earned some war wounds in his days, the back part of his comb is missing. (of course, it will never show if you display it properly). I restore fine antiques and I restored the legs back to the base, they were loose and one was cracked at the base, it is now rock solid. Of course the wood has some age related shrinkage cracks, mostly in the base and on the underside of the rooster. The rich colors and patina are outstanding. I love the detail of the feet/claws, right down to the black tips on the claws, excellent! This is a rare and beautiful work of art. All the best, Bryan. From tail to chest…. 4 X 4 3/4.
