Authentic Early 20thC ENGLISH PUB SIGN Sand Painted Folk Art BENSKINS COW ROAST. From an extensive collection upstate, NY. Fantastic original early 20thC English Pub Sign, possibly from the Cow Roast Inn. Painted for Benskins Beer as well. Wonderful hand painted graphic of a hand turning a spit with a cow roasting over an open fire. Is sand painted / has a sand texture similar to other of that era. Solid cast iron frame with several layers of paint. I have no idea how this got to upstate, NY. Quite a fascinating piece. Sign (framed) measures approximately. 30.25″ by 37 7/8″. The loops for hanging at top extend another 1.75. As you can see, the sign has a split in the board and some significant loss to one side. Paint wear commensurate with age. Antique Portrait Of a Woman New England Folk Art Painting Att William Jennys
For sale is an antique Folk Art portrait painting of a woman. This painting is attributed to William Jennys. William Jennys was one of the many itinerant painters who traveled throughout New England in the 18 and 19 centuries, seeking commissions in smaller towns in rule areas. Two works attributed to him portrait of a man 1802 1805 and portrait of a woman 1802 to 1805 contain bear backgrounds, broadly molded faces, strongly suggesting this style of Jennys. The couples features are blunt, their hair is not a specially neat or done and both are dressed in clothing of good quality, but slightly out of fashion, suggesting that they live close to, but not in, and urban center at the turn of the 19th century. Jennys painted his portraits in ovals, that was another signature of his work. This portrait has a wax lining and has been re-lined many years ago. Measurements are: 30″ x 27 (framed) and 26″ x 19 1/2 unframed. Painting is in beautiful gold gilt antique frame. Any questions or comments, please feel free to ask, and good luck! Vintage Wooden Patriotic Folk Art Painted Travel Electric Tattoo Case
Amazing painted wooden tattoo equipment case for travel or storage. The case is made of wood with an iron handle and fine early dovetail construction. Electric tattooing was invented in the late 1800’s, this case dates sometime in the early 1900’s. The case was found in Cincinnati, Ohio but we could not attribute it to any particular old time artist from that time. The eagle and lettering are wonderfully painted on the front with great detail and there is a painted “B” on one side. The eagle and the lettering painted on the case have a wonderful old surface and are in excellent condition with expected wear. It is 25 3/4″ long x 15 3/4″ wide and 9 1/4 deep. Like us on face book. That dealer wanted the picture real bad and made him a huge offer. Well 34 years later. I have decided to share his work with the world. It features the little man that is excited and Mose said he was like a butterfly getting some love nectar from the Moose Lady The drops are the “love ” nectar. What a conversation piece! This was Mose being himself, he loved life and was always fun to visit him at his bedside where he created and painted. His work sometimes walked on the wild side. But always was true to his life and fun loving self. ANTIQUE EARLY AMERICAN Folk Art PORTRAIT PAINTING withOriginal Gilt Frame, c. 1700s
Depicts a stern woman in formal dress, sitting in a dark red chair. Excellent subject matter by a masterful artist. It comes in an original period gilt frame that is 2.5 deep with much detail as shown in the photos. It appears to be unsigned and probably dates back to the late 18th or early 19th century. Condition : Painting is in great condition with some minor flaws as follows. Some craquelure in three places below the portrait (not noticeable unless you look very close), and a small hole about the size of a pencil eraser that has been restored (patched on back and repaired as shown in the photos) on left side. The frame has significant wear from age with areas of gesso/wood chipping/missing near the corners and edges where it usually wears the most. I took many photos and closeup of areas for full disclosure. Its not bad and not so noticeable once hanging on a wall. Overall, an excellent RARE condition painting for the age and could be hung and displayed as is as I would say its its in very good condition. Size is very large and heavy with frame at approximately 36 1/2″ tall x 31 5/8″ x 2 1/2 deep in frame. Would make for a great room or library center piece. Also has an older mounted light on the top which is fully functional as shown in the photos. This work was recently found in a house outside of Boston. The condition of the work is very good… There is not any inpaintings or repairs… There is craqualure throughout the painting from age.
