RARE Antique Primitive Early American Folk Tramp Art Heart Wood Picture Frame

Very unusual and rare piece of Early American history! This tramp art frame is a great piece of folk art, with wooden hearts on each corner and splayed wooden pieces coming out from each side of the frame, each one hand carved. It is pretty deep, so it could have originally been used as a shadow box for a mourning wreath or something else. Hangs horizontally, but could be changed to hang vertically. Measurements: 17″ tall x 20″ wide x 2 deep. Inside of frame: 9.5″ x 6.5″. Condition: In as found condition. Will need a back, wire, and glass for framing. Also, missing half of one of the hearts. One of the pieces on the sides moves and it may be missing a decorative piece on the side, hard to tell. For its age, it is actually in pretty decent shape. Every once in a while, a piece of wonderful old wood with exceptional character and patina come my way. That was the case when I saw this great 1850’s pine single wide board in the best Original Robin’s Egg Blue Paint! It became this Primitive Folk Art Whale Weathervane. All the materials are from the 1850’s — the Southern Heart Pine Wood with incredible patina. T he wood knot became his eye. This whale even has his teeth, made of old metal. It is a prominent stand-out on the wall of any room. The wood is a single wide board. He measures approximately 62″ x 15″. You can be assured that this piece was hand crafted by me from all old original materials. It is 100% American made with 100% American materials dating from the 1850’s. Antique Game Rack Pennsylvania Dutch Tulip Paint Carved Wood Iron Hooks Folk Art

An antique wall-hanging game, fowl, or herb drying rack. Handmade and hand painted milled wood with a carved crown and five original embedded wrought iron hooks. The dealer we bought it from said it was probably late 1800s. We have seen closely similar racks identified as Pennsylvania Dutch and this rack shows a style of tulip painting that has much in common with known Pennsylvania museum pieces like the example in Henry Kauffman’s book Pennsylvania Dutch American Folk Art (see photos). We are not experts: please use your experience to evaluate; questions and comments are welcome. The rack has an interesting free-flowing floral painted decoration in blue, orange, teal green, white, and yellow. The design blends nicely with Norwegian rosemaled folk art; we used it to hang hand knit Norwegian mittens, Scandinavian acanthus carved meerschaum pipes, and wood chain wedding spoons from Norway. Condition is as pictured, structurally sound. Note a wood knot or an old filled hole between the far left 2nd and 3rd hook. Measures 36 inches long, 5. Inches high, and 2. Some who have seen it think it may have been cut down from a longer original. The upper molding may have doubled as a plate rail. Note that we shoot our pictures under several bright daylight lights to bring up detail; the rack looks darker in room light. Thank you for looking, questions are welcome.
