This is a one of a kind original painting. Johnnie, an African American artist is incarcerated, has been painting about three years and is self taught. He has donated many of his paintings to support a program that allows men to earn their college degrees while behind bars. He has a rare eye disorder and is diagnosed as legally blind but still manages to create beautiful works of art. This is titled “Eve” and is hand painted in oil and oil pastels on canvas paper. It is unframed and signed. The photos where it is shown in a frame are just to help you visualize what the painting would look like in a frame. There is a crease in the paper in the back of the painting which does not seem to affect the front of the painting(please see photo). Color may vary slightly due to lighting. Antique Folk Art Painting American Revolutionary War 18th Century Soldier Woman

An amazing painting with such historic details! The painting does have wear…. Loose canvas on some of the sides… From an antique lovers perspective…. It’s utterly fabulous! I’m dating this piece from 1779 to 1783 due to the clothing attire and painting details. The dress the lady is wearing dates to the late 1700’s and the soldiers uniform dates after 1779 when George Washington ordered soldiers of the Continental Army wear blue coats. The red trim on the uniform and the windmill in the background make me think Virginia BUT…. This attire was worn in a few other states as well. The couples cheery faces and the entire piece will bring a smile to your face! It’s delicate yet perfectly displayable. It could be preserved in a frame or however you see fit. It’s a lovely piece any collector of period paintings…. Or war memorabilia will cherish! Please see all of the photos and judge the type and condition for yourself. The portrait measures just over 9.75 inches tall and about 7.5 inches across. I love to research the items I sell and do my best to describe them but I’m not an expert. Beautiful oil on canvas painting from antique art collector. Painting is not signed. The history of the painting is unknown. The painting has different types of wear like indentation to canvas, chipped paint and looks like one spot of touch up paint (see photo). We are not antique art experts but it looks like this portrait art is in its original condition with no signs of restoration except of one spot of touch up paint. Frame is detached from the canvas in a few spots (see photos). Some cracking and peeled paint to the frame in a few spots. Frame needs some cleaning. Dark discoloration to the back of the canvas is possibly a sign of original and antique/vintage piece of art. With frame 35 x 30. Without frame 30 x 25. Painting is on paper. By John Toney Outsider FOLK ARTIST. 15x 23 inches, date 1995. Painted when John Henry was 67 years old. John Henry Toney was a self-taught folk artist who began painting late in life. Was born in Seale, Russell County, on October 18, 1928, on his family farm. Toney spent most of his adult life living in a trailer with no heat or running water on ten acres outside Seale. He worked briefly in a cotton mill but claimed that he was fired for drawing an unflattering portrait of his boss. Founder of the Museum of Wonder and the Museum of Wonder Drive-Thru Museum. Created with paint pens or markers on posterboard and cardboard, Toney’s drawings feature animals. Exaggerated female forms in fanciful clothing, vehicles, and other subjects.
