Antique 19thC Spanish Colonial Folk Art Crucifix Jesus Carved & Painted Santos.. Tonight we will be listing several auctions with examples of antique Spanish Colonial, Christian Carvings. Century Folk Art Carvings. The antique Crucifix measures 9 ½” wide by 4 ½” at the base, and the overall height to the top of the Cross is 20 ½. Over the years the original paint has worn away plus the tiny separate hands on Mother Mary and one of the Saints are missing. There also are some fingers missing from the Crucified Jesus. The second antique Spanish Colonial Carving depicts Jesus as a young man. He is standing on a 4 ¼” by 5″ painted base, and the overall height is 13. Both forearms are missing and there is heavy wear to the original paint. We are listing these two early Spanish Colonial Santos Carvings without any reserve. This one is very well executed, and shows a Saint with wings as well as a heavenly cloud to the upper right. Below at his feet are micro painted scenes of life. No signature is found. The painting is “untouched”, meaning it shows no alterations or any attempts to clean. It shows overall patina on the paint which has darkened the image. Light spotty and minuscule oxidation spots are present. We used the camera flash to accentuate the painted images. Reality, the painting is darker than shown. Over the next few days we will be listing a collection of antique, Spanish Colonial, Tin Icon Paintings. We have divided them up into several auctions each with two or three antique 19.. There are three authentic 19. The first Tin Icon measures 7″ by 10″ and is marked along the bottom S. Co de Pula 19..1. It depicts a Saint or a Monk holding a Rosary and a long Sheppard’s Staff. On the left side is a lamb coming out of the fires of an oven. This is an interesting depiction of a Saint holding a Crucifix. He is reading from the bible while looking at a skull, around his arms and waists are bands of metal causing him to bleed. In the photographs of this Tin Icon you can see some wear to the original paint, but overall it is in very good condition. It depicts Mother Mary and the Baby Jesus wearing Crowns with a Halo of Roses. This icon does have several holes at the top and the bottom, from when this icon was attached to the wall. There are no other problems or restorations to these Tin Icons, and they are listed without any reserve. We have been listing a small collection of antique, Spanish Colonial, Tin Icon Oil Paintings. Tonight we are listing two more original examples. The first Christian Icon measures Saint Mary wearing a Crown and a dress decorated with Roses. On either side is a tall painted candles. This 9 ½” by 13 ¾” Icon Painting is unusual that it has 1 3/8 tall sides with tiny holes around edges, like it was attached into something. There also some very tiny spots to the surface, but everything else is original. Measuring 10″ by 145″ the second antique Icon painting depicts The Madonna and Baby Jesus. Both are wearing crowns and are supported by clouds at the bottom. There are bends and small holes around the outside edge, plus there also are tiny marks and scratches, which you can see in the photographs. Century Icon painting is in good original condition and there are no restorations. Just like all the other antique Spanish Colonial Icons we are listing this week there is No reserve.
