Original Folk Art oil on panel painting signed Gloria Laposka framed satire
ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING. About 15 3/4″ x 19 1/2″ sight size. 20″ x 24″ overall. Delightful lighthearted satiric oil on canvas of formal ball with attendees in colonial attire, but in various unflattering poses. Gnawing on a chicken leg, falling asleep, picking her teeth, etc. Signed and dated on the wine bottle on the table LAPOSKA / 69. Framed in a wide cove frame. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Gloria Laposka was a photographer and self taught artist, known for primitive realist works. Among other places, she has exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art. Her paintings often evince a delightful sense of humor. Even when a stroke resulted in a stay rehab facility, she continued to delight other residents with her works. Colors vibrant and unfaded. Minor flakes from the painted frame. (all visible in the images). A WONDERFUL WHIMSICAL PAINTING BY A WELL KNOWN AMERICAN ARTIST.
