19thC Antique Barn Country Landscape Folk Art Painting Frame Martan

Beautiful antique folk art style painting. Painting is framed in a beautiful wood and plaster frame. Frame shows damage and has been painted gold. The painting was held in place by tape which has also left residue on the backside of the frame. The tape is no longer securing it so it will need some work (or new tape) to fit securely in frame. It looks to be signed A. Possible water damage stain on back but no water damage visible on front of painting. Frame measures approx 18×14.5. 4 Victorian Children in Rural Landscape. Folk art oil on canvas painting. Naive or primitive style. This is a lovely folk art (naive, primitive, outsider) oil on canvas portrait of four children of various ages, including three girls and one boy, in a natural landscape setting. The sumptuous Victorian costume suggests that it was likely commissioned by a wealthy family during the latter half of the 19th century. The canvas-maker’s stamp on the reverse side, “WINSOR & NEWTON, 38, RATHBONE PLACE, LONDON, ” indicates that the work is likely English in origin. The painting is by an unknown (likely itinerant) artist; unsigned; framed in a gold gesso frame. The face of the painting is in good condition. Partial relining along bottom (full edge) and top edge (4″-5″ section only) of canvas. 5 small scratches, scuffs (edges – where canvas meets stretcher); 1 dent approx. 1/16; 2 patch repairs (not visible, except from back). Frame is in good condition (for its age). STRETCHER SIZE: 27.5 inches x 33 inches (69.85 cm x 83.82 cm). FRAME SIZE: 34.75 inches x 39.5 inches x 3 inches (88.265 cm x 100.33 cm x 7.62 cm). Perfect for Cottage-core , Mid century modern or traditional decor. A beautiful piece of Americana 20th Century expressionistic realism. Very charming town center scene.. Dont be fooled by the common approach , take a look at that tree trunk and shadow.. Against the white of the clapboard church. Pure Mid-Atlantic/ North East aesthetics. Un-signed, great size at 24×21 (outside dimensions on the frame). Frame is beautiful aged patina White Oak with nice flat finish. Painting is done on board and Im guessing by the looks of it , its mid- century 40s-60s? But Im not sure.
