New York State Winter Farmhouse Folk Art Oil Painting
This is a very cute vintage Folk Art oil painting depicting an antique saltbox yellow farmhouse with a prominent weathered red barn located beside it – according to what is written on the reverse of the painting, the farmhouse is located in the Carthage, New York area – the painting was done by Folk Art artist Sanny Backus of Carthage who titled the painting “Winter Barn” – on the reverse, the artist stated that this painting was done in oil & acrylic paints, but, the look & feel of the painting in my estimation is predominantly oil paint – the painting is not dated, but, appears to be from the 1970’s? The subject of the painting which is the red barn at the center of the picture is shown with a mid-winter heavy coat of snow on its sloping front side where it appears to attach to another smaller outbuilding – there are heavy drifts of snow on the ground all around the barn & the saltbox colonial as well as on the roof of the farmhouse – both buildings were painted to depict them as quite weathered from the many winter seasons & storms that they have survived through – the artist used a palette of pale red & brown to depict the barn & a gray- black for the barn’s roof – for the saltbox colonial, the artist used a palette of pale brown & beige for the front side, & pale gray with a tint of yellow for the south side of the house, all to reflect extreme weathering of the south side of the house due to heavy winds & storms. Behind the farmhouse & barn are some smallish mountains painted in a pleasant variety of blue, green, brown, & gray colors which seem to show less snow buildup than on the flatter terrain by the farmhouse – probably the snow is there but hard to see through the dense foliage created by the artist – the painting measures 12″ x 16″ sight size, & is in very good vintage condition – it is well-enhanced by its original painted wooden frame where the blue-green color of the outer border of the frame matches the blue-green colors of the small mountains – the frame also has an inner border painted gray-black which matches nicely with the grays & blacks of the painting the fence, the trees, the base of the barn, & the various shadows found around the house & the barn as well as the mountains.

Vintage Haitian Artist Signed By “Nenel” Folk Art Painting Original 12″x16″. To me the painting appears nearly perfect. Bright no fading no scratching. The only minor flaws that I can see are in the last two pictures. First, appears to be a small scratch on the canvas on the wood border. Second, appears to be a small dent on the very edge of the canvas wood border. Please refer to pictures. Please ask for any further details or pictures.

A happy and FUN original southern folk art painting of a trio of clowns – colorfully depicted – running towards the circus tent under a perfect ethereal blue sky with with puffy (literally, impasto) clouds descending in perspective as are the puffy green lollipop styled trees under them. Bought this in downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi’s “The Attic Gallery”- a reputable art gallery since 1971. It was hung in my son’s bright modern nursery and toddler bedroom but as he grown into a tween – his style has changed and we don’t have a place for it. Note : A small nick on the canvas on largest tree and some minor rubs near signature in dark green grass area thanks movers!!!! But well taken care of in a smoke-free home. I hung it with a colorful stripe grosgrain ribbon for added appeal but it doesn’t have to be used as the canvas already has a wire hanger in place – see photos for both ways of display. It is a one-of-a-kind art piece!!

E9Art (aka eric) has been a typesetter, tire changer, the coffee dude, that pizza guy, and a full-time artist. Eric didn’t’discover’ art until he was in his 50s, partially due to the idea that he couldn’t be an artist being colorblind, and partially that he was raised in an environment where art was considered a waste of time because’art doesn’t put food on the table. Since his first art sale in 2014, he has been making up for lost time. E9art can be found on twitter, facebook, pinterest and tumblr. Eric’s home and studio can be found in his hometown of Walton, NY.
