RARE SET OF 6 EARLY AMERICAN PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH SIDE CHAIRS CIRCA 1800’s HAND PAINTED. Up for sale is this amazing set of 6 Early American Pennsylvania Dutch chairs. They have turned legs and painted backs, seats and legs. They are a Hitchcock style chairs with hand-painted floral designs with yellow, green, black and faded white colors on the backs and they have painted seats and legs of white and yellow designs. All 6 chairs match. The stain on the chairs is a deep, rich brown color all nicely patina-ed. The back of the backs of the chairs are plain brown. There’s wear on the seats and one some of the edges where people rubbed over the years. We think these are from the 1800’s but they might be earlier, we’re not sure as we are not experts in the ages of things. The chairs are sturdy. Some of the back of the backs have some little scrapes and wear as you can see in the pictures. The seats show wear, variation in color. And nicks in the finish. Some of the footrests also show wear and loss of stain from rubbing shoes and feet on the rungs. Some of the rungs are just a little loose as you might expect from years of use. Have nicks, chips, edgewear and wonderful patina on them as you’d expect from chairs of this age! The chairs measure 33 inches H x 19 inches W at the backs (15.25 W at the seats) x 14 inches D. This is a fabulous (hard-to-find) set of 6 chairs. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. We couldn’t sell anything if it wasn’t for you and the time you have taken to spend looking at our items. As a very small business we strive to keep you as our customer! Rare Folk Art Painting Albert Lujan Taos Pueblo New Mexico Early American
Fresh to the market is this fantastic original folk art painting by Taos New Mexico artist, Albert Lujan. This fine image includes 3 figures and is in great to excellent overall original condition (tiny pin points of paint loss and needs cleaning) — retaining its original folk art frame with only minor loss. Image measures 6 inches by 8 1/2 inches. Overall, measurements including frame are 9 3/4 by 12 3/4 inches. Albert Lujan specialized in painting the multi-storied buildings seen at his native Taos Pueblo, usually devoid of people and typically in miniature scale. Classically, these amazing views included a pueblo adobe house framed by beehive outdoor ovens, majestic mountains, beautiful New Mexico blue sky, and oftentimes, a ristra of chili. Was an early Taos painter. He was ahead of his time by painting with a style influence by Euro-American artists. In contrast, many of his classmates at THE STUDIO taught by Dorothy Dunn at the Santa Fe Indian School developed their own unique style of painting and continued to utilize what became known as the Flat Style of Native American painting. His work was shunned by collectors and the Museum of New Mexico Fine Art Gallery because it was too much like what other Taos and Santa Fe artists produced. Now he has come of age and his works are being sought by collectors and museums. In fact, an exhibit of some 40 works was recently displayed at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico. The exhibit featured the works of Albert Lujan, Albert Looking Elk Martinez (also of Taos), and Juan Mirabal. These three artists all painted in what is known as the European style. There also is an excellent article on this trio of artists in New Mexico Magazine, January 2003. Recommended Reading: For a compelling and comprehensive overview of the life and artwork of Albert Lujan please see. Albert Lujan: Entrepreneurial Pueblo Painter of Tourist Art (1892 – 1948). Antique Early American Folk Art Portrait handsome Man Empire Picture Frame 1840
This nicely preserved historic oil on canvas portrait of a handsome, 20-something man check out the eyebrows! With pleasant, subtle smiling facial expression and tousled hair with near spit curls is housed in its original mahogany on pine frame retaining original varnish and measures 30 1/4″ x 26 1/8″ overall; 26″ x 22″ actual. The subject is depicted with his arm casually draped over the back of an empire side chair and engaging the viewer with the frankness and piercing dark brown eyes. The work has stable paint with some very small pinpoint spots of loss in the background and the surface of the painting is fairly dirty with no obvious inpaint. It has an early 20th century re-lining and is mounted to its original stretchers. I added the modern steel clips as the bent nails previously employed were loose and a potential threat to the canvas. It comes from a Massachusetts family collection and the identity of the sitter is unknown. AMAZING AAFA 1800’S ORIGINAL PAINT DRY MUSTARD EARLY PRIMITIVE WOOD DRY SINK HEAVY! Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive dry sink. It’s a one-door cabinet in a wonderful bright Primitive dry mustard color (yellow mustard). All four sides are tongue and groove wood pieces. The paint appears to be all old and is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn and patina-ed! This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! It’s an old dry sink. The door opens and has an old metal twist latch that goes in to a metal piece on the left door. You also could leave the doors open and display crocks, or firkins or other wonderful items. It’s a wonderful deep red color inside. On the left and right sides at the bottom there are some areas of damage where the top layer of wood came off, or better said, a portion of the yellow top wood came off leaving an indent. I hope this makes sense. Check out the pictures, we took a close up. There are a lot of old rusty nails as you can see in the pictures. Inside the well there is a rusty repair over the sink hole in the wood. Over to the right in the back, there is some damage / wear as you can see in the pictures. The paint has some edge wear, scrapes, patina, fading, variation of color, wood showing through, chipping and nicks. Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! The cabinet measures 46″ L x 19.5″ W x 30.5 H. The well inside measures 43″ L x 16″ W x 6 H. The bead board on the door is 5/8 thick. We can also a shipper. This is a great dry sink! We regularly put up new items so check out our other items.
