Description : An antique or vintage Stoneware Butter Crock with later painted decoration by 20thC. American Folk Artist, Warner C. The Butter Crock : Molded cylindrical form with slightly raised band at rim. Approximate 2.5 Quart capacity. This would be considered a 5# Butter Crock. WREDE on the base. The photos are probably the best description. Background : WC (Warner) Wrede partnered with Peter Ompir in the 1950s and the pair worked together to paint a wide variety of everyday objects. A time consuming, multi-step process requiring up to 2 weeks to complete each piece. See Internet for further information. No cracks, repaired damage or other excuses.
