AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE PULL TOY WOOD BULL AND COW ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED. Up for sale are these adorable little pull toy bull and cow. Hey have little carts that they are on. The bull is red with little leather ears. He’s wood and has a little metal bell around his neck. He’s on a red cart with cute little wooden wheels. The cow is super cute too! She has stick legs like a Putz, and wooden ears and a little leather harness. She’s on a green edged cart with two yellow wheels and two silver colored wheels. The top of the cart has cream and wood color striping on it. Her legs go through the cart to the underside as you can see in the pictures. There are some hairline cracks in the cow’s legs. They are old and adorable. We’re not sure if their carts are original or not. 5.5″ long and 3.75″ high on his cart. Just the bull is 4.75″ long and 3″ high. The cow is 4.75″ long and 3″ high on the cart. Just the cow is 2.5″ high by 4″ long. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. Seed Bull 506 by Edward Goss. “Seed Bull 506″ is a great example of this extraordinary artist’s style, using house paint and oil paint sticks on wood to create a striking Paleolithic yet thoroughly modern cave drawing of 5 bulls. It’s tough to capture in the photos just how bright, unique, and totemistic this painting is. At 54 inches (4.5 feet) long x 6.5 inches tall x 1.5 inches wide, It is a dominating and attention-grabbing work of art. It had been kept out of sun light and displayed in a clean, smoke-free environment. The wood is roughly assembled but very solid. Please examine pictures carefully, as they are the best indication of condition. International buyers please message me first. I bought 5 paintings from Mr. Goss in 2004, and he did not offer COAs or receipts. The School for Scandal. Follow Us on Instagram /theschoolforscandal/. A late 18th century oil on canvas depicting a bull baiting scene. In England during the time of Queen Anne, bull-baiting was practised in London at Hockley-in-the-Hole, twice a week and was also reasonably common in provincial towns. At Tutbury, a bull was tied to an iron stake so that it could move within a radius of about 30 feet. The object of the sport was for the dogs to immobilise the bull. Before the event started, the bull’s nose was blown full of pepper to enrage the animal before the baiting. The bull was often placed in a hole in the ground. A variant of bull-baiting was “pinning the bull”, where specially-trained dogs would set upon the bull one at a time, a successful attack resulting in the dog fastening his teeth strongly in the bull’s snout. The extinct Old English Bulldog was bred especially for this sport. Bull-baiting was not only practised as a form of recreation: there existed a “long-held belief” that baiting improved the flesh. By the early nineteenth century, the sport began to die out, both because the baiting caused a public nuisance and because of new concerns about animal cruelty. A Bill for the suppression of the practice was introduced into the House of Commons in 1802, but was defeated by thirteen votes. It was not finally outlawed until parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act of 1835, which forbade the keeping of any house, pit, or other place for baiting or fighting any bull, bear, dog, or other animal. This particular image was taken from a engraving “bull-baiting in Southwark” dated on August 4th, 1666. And then was documented in The new book of the dog : a comprehensive natural history of British dogs and their foreign relatives, with chapters on law, breeding, kennel management, and veterinary treatment by Robert Leighton 1911. The painting has been relined likely in the second quarter of the 19th century, and is in poor condition, flaking of paint in the bottom third some spots of water damage. But still has a charming appearance, a interesting and unusual subject matter. Later mounted in a veneered burr maple frame 48/61cm. Please get in contact as that can be arranged. If you wish to view any items that are currently for sale please feel free to arrange a day and time with myself. I would recommend viewing if you are able. A lovely piece of work, very decorative and in good fair condition for age and use. Ready to display or could be framed if desired. EARLY 20TH C. VINTAGE HAND-CRAFTED, PAINTED FOLK ART WOODEN BULL WithORIG SURFACE
EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN VINTAGE HAND- CRAFTED, PAINTED FOLK ART WOODEN. BULL WITH ORIGINAL SURFACES. This early 20th century hand-fashioned primitive folk art carved wooden bull, is complete and features hand-painted surfaces and especially well-painted, detailed eyes. The carved wooden horns are both intact and without material loss or fractures. The entire bull is carved from a central piece of pine wood, where separate legs and horns, as well as the coarse, raw cord hemp tail, are attached. The tail is also intact and original to the folk art carving. The sidewalls of the sculpture feature sponge-applied sienna brown, and black paint, that resemble the animal’s natural hide and covering. The bottoms of the legs are also intact and without any fractures. The naturalism of the bull’s carving points to familiarity with the animal and was most likely hand-carved by a farmer who once held these livestock on their New England farm. It looks great from all angles and really doesn’t have any weaknesses. It stands 13″ high and over 10″ in length and has presence and the determination the animal itself, once did. 13″ Length 10 ¼” Height x 3 ½ Depth. Very Good/Excellent overall vintage condition. Please scroll down to view enlarged photos below. The item “EARLY 20TH C. VINTAGE HAND-CRAFTED, PAINTED FOLK ART WOODEN BULL WithORIG SURFACE” is in sale since Saturday, December 23, 2017.
