Naïve Vintage Reverse Glass Folk Art Painting Indonesia Batavia, Java Port 1660s
Presenting a truly unique and stunning landscape portrait of a port in Java in the 1600s. The naïve style, characteristic of reverse glass paintings has fantastic depth of color and intricate details. This is a beautiful one-of-a-kind artwork that will add interest and brighten any decor including an entryway, home office, den or child’s room. Measures approximately 23.5″ in length x 15.5″ in height; with the frame measures approximately 25 1/4″ x 17.5″. Painting is in excellent condition with vibrant colors and captivating details and no noteworthy flaws. Photos do not do justice to the brilliance of the colors which is hard to capture without getting reflection from the glass. Simple wood frame with a rustic reddish brown stain shows its age lending to a vintage look. You may want to reframe for a more updated effect. Metal loop in center of frame for easy hanging. Paper backing is wrinkled and glued to one side of cardboard backing. The reverse side of the cardboard backing reveals an Indonesian branded water box dated 1996 which gives an approximate time and place painting was framed. Painting may be older. Actual provenance is unknown as this was found at an estate sale. The painting is not signed as many paintings of this type are produced by anonymous, unskilled artists.
