Rare Antique Folk art oil. Dimensions: 22 x 19 inches without frame. 25 x 22 inches with frame. Description: Oil on canvas. Titled Skowhegan Maine on the back. Very interesting folk art painting with view from the Skowhegan Falls before the dams. The scene shows figures cutting wood and people in boats picking up logs from the water. Log driving was popular in Skowhegan from the early 19th century until it ended in 1976. The first settlers cut the trees on their farms to build log cabins and barns. When they started to run out of trees in this area, so they had to cut the trees up the river and float them down river to Skowhegan. They built sawmills on the Skowhegan island in order to saw lumber to build the houses in Skowhegan village. Later they built pulp and paper mills up and down the Kennebec river, and began to cut pulpwood for making paper. The painting originates from a Norwegian family whose relations worked in Maine. A very rare oil and a collectors dream. Condition: Ready to hang. The oil could use a light cleaning, due to the old age. Otherwise fine with no holes, tears or missing paint. The original salon frame has minor scratches due to the age. All our items are located at our gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark. Get Supersized Images & Free Image Hosting. Outsider Folk Art Painting Florida Artist Gene Beecher (1909-2002)
Painted since 1982 when he moved to Florida for health reasons at the age of 73. He painted daily until one summer night at 93 he was found bewildered and wondering the halls of his retirement home, he had painted himself with Day-Glo paint and sprinkled himself with silver glitter. I think his paintings are original naive, brilliant and dream like folk art. There is mild to average surface wear, please refer to the pics. Over the years I bought all of his paintings I have from his son also named Gene and lives in Pennsylvania. Any questions please ask and thanks for looking.. This Painting has a homemade frame and canvas seems to be plastic with the edges covered with black electrical tape.

ORIGINAL DOLORES HACKENBERGER (b 1930)’AMISH GOING TO CHURCH’ OIL PAINTING. This is just a great original piece. This one is the first I have come across since then. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. Known as the Grandma Moses of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, this is a wonderful example of the artist’s work. I think one of the best works I have come across by the artist. A wonderful village scene with the Amish heading to Church in a wonderful red barn. Oil on canvas measuring 12 x 15 inches, the painting is in fantastic as painted condition. Really a wonderful stunning example of the artist’s work. Painting is in a very high end linen matte and wood frame that are ready to hang. Just a beautiful presentation of this stunning painting. A must have for any collector. Frame measures 22 1/4 x 25 1/4 inches. For those not familiar with the artist her biography from askart reads: ” Lovingly referred to as the “Grandma Moses of the Pennsylvania Dutch country, Dolores has painted the colorful Amish folk and culture for the past forty plus years. Her distinctive folk art style vividly depicts the simple and charming traditions of the Amish neighbors, with whom she has worked and visited throughout her life in southeastern Pennsylvania, graced by wooden frames lovingly made by her son. Self-taught, Dolores began receiving recognition early, winning in the Chicago National Art Show near the beginning of her career. Since that time, she has earned international acclaim. Her paintings have won numerous top awards in juried competitions judged by authorities such as Eric Sloan, John McCoy and Warren Rohrer. Exhibitions of her work have been conducted in many institutions throughout the nation including, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Reading Public Museum, the Chicago National Art show, Franklin & Marshall College, and Lebanon Valley College. Her paintings are also in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and other areas throughout the world. Most recently, her paintings have been viewed in the Colonial Homes magazine, and Better Homes & Gardens’ Country Home. She is honored to be one of the chosen artists in the limited-edition history book, Artist’ Album/Lancaster County. Her work has been collected by such prominent figures as President George Bush, the later Senator John Heinz, Congressman Robert Walker, Celeste Homes, Rod Stewart, Paul Newman, Oliver North and many other private collections. I paint seven days a week, anywhere from two to ten hours a day. I’m constantly amazed. I’ve never gotten over the thrill of people wanting to own my work. Dolores has won or received awards in 20 of 25 competitive shows which she entered from 1960 onwards. She loves antiques, which her paintings reflect. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE. I present for sale a Very Rare Vintage African American Folk Art Gouache On Board Painting! It is a Cultural African American Folk Art Piece, finding very little info about it. There doesn’t seem to be an artist’s signature or any identifying markings on it, but I didn’t take the canvas out of it’s frame to inspect it and it’s artist’s signature or identifying mark may be under the double mats inside the frame. The canvas has been “Double Matted” with two very complimenting colors. The frame is a very basic wooden frame painted in a glossy black painted finish. The back of the frame still has the original paper on it when it was originally matted & framed. The brown paper on the back was originally attached to the frame’s back with some type of adhesive that formed an air – tight seal protecting the canvas inside for decades. At some point, I’m assuming recently, the paper on the back was cut to obviously inspect the canvas, but the brown paper still remains. There is a very old label attached to the paper on back that’s mentioned above. The label is in a stencil – font and red dye color used to make the label is definitely from the 1950’s (See attached Photo). The label says Buffalo Picture Frame & Mirror Corp. Showroom & Gallery 150 Allen Street Buffalo 1 N. And a 7 digit telephone number, including a logo from Master Picture Framers’ Guild. There is a wire one the back of the frame that’s used to hang “Display” the piece. The wire is attached very securely with two “Eyelet screws” that are embedded into the frames wooden trim. The measurements of the frame is as follows. Frame Width = 20 7/8 inches. Frame Height = 10 3/4 inches. Frame Depth = 3/4 inches. That’s all of the facts on this piece of artwork, but I will say, whom ever the artist was, they were very talented because this painting captures all of the passion and motion of the women in this incredible cultural / religious African or African American scene. The winner of this listing will receive the EXACT ITEM(s). Again, Thank You All So Much For Stopping By and as always,,, GOD Bless You And Always Bless Yours!
