This original painting by African American folk artist Leon Collins depicts one of his childhood memories of quarreling neighbors. Childhood memories constitute a large proportion of his works that includesimages of childhood friends in the smokehouse gang, his aunt and uncle, and his grandmother, Big Mamma, and her seven sisters laboring in the cotton fields. This 2017 painting by Navasota, Texas folk artist Leon Collins, is 26.5 by 38.25by ½, framed, acrylic on wood panel. The unframed dimensions are 23 ½ by 35 ½by 1/2. The metallic frame came with the painting from the artists studio and has several pinprick dents. An African, Leon Collins (1951-) is Navasotas local legend. While he has housed his Color of Life Gallery in several antique stores along East Washington Street, he is known for painting and displaying his treasures on the sidewalk in full view of passersby. According to fellow Navasota artist andsculptor Russell Cushman, Collins is the most successful artist in the Brazos Valley, and perhaps the most prolific artist that Texas has produced. Leon Collins is best known for portraying his many childhood memories, but his work includes a number of distinct phases and styles including the surreal, animal likenesses, and western themes. Collins is an amazingly productive artist, painting one or more works a day. He sells them as fast as he can paint them, so original works of his are rare and hard to find. His life and works have been featured in Images of America: Navasota by Robin and Joy Montgomery (2012), Texas Farm and Home Magazine, Texas Live Magazine, the Navasota CurrentRussell Cushmans blog, The Lufkin News, and the Navasota Examiner. His paintings have been shown in galleries from Bryan, Fort Worth, and Dallas, Texas to New York, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Antique Framed Cut Paper Silhouette Picture. This unusual cut paper silhouette picture has names and dates written along the bottoms of the scenes (although the dates are hard to read). It looks as if it may have been later mounted and framed in a wooden frame. We have no history to the piece. Condition: Overall in fair condition. The paper cuttings look to have moved in the frame and have some creasing, discolouration and minor loss. The frame has some quite heavy scuffing and wear and some shrinkage cracking to the corners. There are some paint marks to the frame. The frame also shows signs of woodworm – this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. Measurements are as follows. Vintage Folk Art Painted Corn Roadside Stand Trade Sign

This is a wonderful piece of Folk Art or painted art from a roadside stand in Indiana. This ear of corn is hand painted on an old wooden ironing board and was hung on a wall as a trade sign for a corn farm stand. This is a unique one of a kind piece of art. The sign dates from somewhere in the early to mid 20th century and is in wonderful condition. The surface shows some age and the mounting holes show very wear which indicates that the sign would have been taken down in the off season. The ear of corn is 53 7/8″ tall x 15″ wide and could be hung both vertically or horizontally. Like us on face book. This is a beautiful punched tin art form, made in Mexico, in the shape of a large church. Made by a talented hojalatero (“tinsmith artist”) from San Miguel de Allende. A lot of work goes into producing a piece like this with tons of detail in the punched, cut and assembled artwork. It is a corded, plug-in lamp / light, with a socket inside and toggle on/off switch. Antique wooden strong box, dating to the late 19th or perhaps early 20th century. European in origin, likely Central Europe. The purpose of the box originally was likely a document safe or keepsake box. The box is made of solid wood and has hand forged iron hardware. It is hand painted, stencils may have been used. The red, black, and yellow colors are still vibrant. If you look closely, especially at the top of box, photo three, this is not the original coat of paint. Beneath it appears to be a faded red. Some of the hardware has been painted to match the box. Last photo shows base of box. I see one metal nail. This is also likely a later addition. When the box is opened, you can see the inner hinge hardware. It operates smoothly; the pieces of the box fit perfectly; this is a well made piece. I think the chain shown was also added later. The hardware looks newer; the pieces where the chain attaches looks like the top of a flathead screw. The box measures 8 1/2 inches high, 15 1/4″ long, and 7 1/2″ deep. The lid has a 1/2 lip on the front 3 sides. A heavy box, it weighs just over 9 pounds. Very good antique condition with noted issues. Folk Art Early Sewing Ballot Box Painted Carved

Wonderful early folk art box measures 11″ x 9 1/2″ x 6 and is made of heavy wood and is close to 5 LBS. Beautifully hand made with great detail and great patina. Not sure the original use, perhaps a sewing box, or ballot box? It has 2 swing handles on the sides, and a drawer on the end. The drawer opens (a bit tight), and the drawer pull is missing. On the top of the box is a post that may have held a spool of thread or yarn and a small box with dividers, (one is lose), with great painting of stars and blue and white design. This box is incredibly made with great details and is all original. There are some chips in the spool holder and the circle on the top of the box, so please see the pictures for the description of the condition. A really great find! Thank you for looking!
