Offering this wonderful and unusual small hand carved and hand painted guinea bird dating from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Guinea birds are very rarely the subject of carvers, who most often carve song bird, water birds and prey birds, making this quite an unusual and delightful find! This is skillfully and realistically carved and painted down to the most minute detail. It stands just 5″ tall and about 4″ from beak to tail. It shows some minor wear to the wood legs (see photos) and light wear to the paint finish, some minor flaking of the paint revealing the wood underneath. For its age, it’s in great condition and displays well. Obviously from a talented artist, it is unmarked. This was found in Southern Pennsylvania and I believe it to be a local piece.
