Antique Central European Hand Painted Wooden Strong Box Wood Folk Art Box
Antique wooden strong box, dating to the late 19th or perhaps early 20th century. European in origin, likely Central Europe. The purpose of the box originally was likely a document safe or keepsake box. The box is made of solid wood and has hand forged iron hardware. It is hand painted, stencils may have been used. The red, black, and yellow colors are still vibrant. If you look closely, especially at the top of box, photo three, this is not the original coat of paint. Beneath it appears to be a faded red. Some of the hardware has been painted to match the box. Last photo shows base of box. I see one metal nail. This is also likely a later addition. When the box is opened, you can see the inner hinge hardware. It operates smoothly; the pieces of the box fit perfectly; this is a well made piece. I think the chain shown was also added later. The hardware looks newer; the pieces where the chain attaches looks like the top of a flathead screw. The box measures 8 1/2 inches high, 15 1/4″ long, and 7 1/2″ deep. The lid has a 1/2 lip on the front 3 sides. A heavy box, it weighs just over 9 pounds. Very good antique condition with noted issues. Up for sale is this Super Old Blue Paint Country Folk Art Wooden Tool Carrier Inv#JA01. This beautifully handcrafted carpenters tool box was made by the owner in early 1950’s. Note the exquisite old blue paint that adorns this piece. From age and wear the paint has flaked and crazed at areas giving forth a lovely original appearance and patina (you cannot duplicate this). T It has some white paint splatters (see side photo). It measures 25″ x 16″ x 9. It weighs 10.7lbs unboxed. Th ere is a small slotted piece of wood on the end that was used to stabilize saw blades. It has a beautiful carved handle and small slots for tools. There are rusted screws and nails that are there from day one. Still strong and tight. It has some nicks, dings and wear as would be expected for a toolbox that was used everyday in the life of… (see all photo close-ups). This would be a great addition to your country collection with lots of history to pass on to the next generation. AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART OLD WHITE PAINT LARGE WOOD WHEELBARROW GARDEN PRIMITIVE YARD ART. Up for sale is this wonderful old wheelbarrow. We don’t know the age or its origin, but it looks old to us. It’s an old white and worn. There are a few hints of some green paint peeking through on the front board and a little on one side but it’s very light and mostly it’s old worn white. It measures 69.5 long WOW! X 24.5 wide at handles x 22-24 wide at front of the barrow and. 5 high at highest point. It’s been well used and loved over the years. The handles are worn, the sides have some scrapes, paint loss and wear. The inside shows some light use. The metal parts that hold the front wheel, the loops for the sides, and the band around the wheel have surface rust as you can see in the pictures. It also has square nuts on the parts where there are bolts to hold it together. We will do our best to answer your questions. Thank you for looking at this item. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND CARVED, HAND. PAINTED KINETIC WOODEN DOWEL HINGED. WOOD DOLL, WITHOUT ORIGINAL. 19th century Ame ri can antique hand carved & paint decorated hinged wooden figurative dolls. 12″ Height x 2 ½” Width x 2 ¾ Depth. Absolutely untouched and undisturbed overall antique condition and recently discovered in a New England estate. It remains in wonderfully well-preserved overall condition, without its original fabric period clothing but with its painted head and painted upper shoulders and neck, largely unscathed and completely intact. All wooden limbs and wood pin hinged legs and arms are fully working, intact and present. The original paint of the doll showcases the anticipated, traditional mid-19th century Victorian female hair style and neckline, where her linen blouse would have began, just where the white paint is seen ending on her upper chest. Her hair is cleanly parted down the middle and the two sides hide her ears, in the traditional, modest and still largely Puritan sensibility toward the sublimation of a woman’s natural beauty, where ears were regarded as too erotic and sexual to show and reveal. Hands and feet are sublimated to the larger forms of arms and legs. Blue and red paint are used for the lips and eyes. The wood has a naturally aged, dry finish and the enamel paint is largely intact, free of flaking or diminishment that the harmful effects of sunlight, heat or cold regularly cause such old and antique painted wooden items. Simply extraordinary and an exquisite and magnificent example of mid-19th century Ame ri can hand carved and hand painted figurative wooden folk art. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
