Throughout most of the history of fishing lures, youll find that creating fishing lures was mostly an individual pastime. Many fishermen enjoyed making their own lures, trying to come up with new and innovative creations that would be more effective in catching fish. It wasnt until about the mid-19th century that creating fishing lures became a commercial venture. We are pleased to offer this Folk Art Handmade Paint Decorated Wooden Lobster Fishing Lure from New England circa late 1800s or early 1900s for your consideration. The fishing lure was handmade in the form of a lobster. The body of the lobster is handmade of wood and the claws are tin. Both are paint decorated. The lobsters feelers and legs are made out of heavy metal wire. There is a metal eyelet on the top of the lobster that would have been used to attach to a fishing line and can be used today for display hanging. This is an outstanding piece of early New England nautical folk art. Early Antique Folk Art Wooden Trencher Dough Box Original Red And Blue Paint

21 L ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE WOODEN TRENCHER DOUGH BOX ORIGINAL RED AND BLUE PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful, old, beautiful wooden trencher dough box. It is rectangular in shape with canted sides with little inlet wooden handles on each end to carry it by. It doesn’t have a lid and likely did not as this one is painted inside with a wonderful Primitive blue-grey, almost a robin’s egg blue in places, color. Sometimes the ones with the painted insides didn’t have lids, that’s why they painted the inside. The color is a beautiful Primitive, almost Ox Blood, red color with wonderful patina, age marks and character marks. Wow, we love the look and all the patina! It looks to have been made from old crates. We can see some crate writing on the side of the box but we can’t read it. It looks in part to say Knudsen’s but we’re not sure. We tried to show this in the last picture. Measures 21.5″ long (at the top) and 17.5″ long (at the bottom) x 9.5″ wide (at the top) and 8″ wide (at the bottom) x 9.25 high measured to the rim. It weighs about 5 lbs. It’s a wonderful, more petite size! This will make a great conversation piece. There’s some nicks, chips, surface imperfections, scrapes, discolorations, fading and edgewear as you can see in the pictures. These “imperfections” add character! It has many character scratches to the interior and spotting or differences in color from age and use. Look at the color, WOW! Inside it’s painted and there are wear marks where the paint has come off. It’s got patina from use on the inside too! The bottom of the box has a crack in it as you can see in the pictures. It’s very clean inside. We have tried to show all of this in the photos. Please look at the photos for a more accurate description and detail. The photos are part of our description so ask lots of questions! It will hold all kinds of seasonal decorations, pumpkins, greens, yarn, fruits, flowers, or even gifts! This Extremely Rare Piece of Respected Black Americana History. Came from an Estate Find Years Ago. This Hand Painted and Hand Crafted Piece is Over a Hundred Years Old. Just the Paint, and Patina would Qualify that. It Represents a Funner Time of History, and by NO Means is it a Racial Representation, and Never Be Considered So. IT IS A PIECE OF ART, and Should be Displayed with Pride. Yes the Character is a Little Not to Scale, but was Made in the Era where Black History, as well as Any other Race was a Bit Cartoon-ish. The Gentleman is Well Dressed, and Could have Possibly been a Servant, or a Wealthy Land Owner. Has Crackling in the Paint, with Scuffs, and Chips. It has a Piece of Steel Mounted to the Base, as it was used as a Paperweight. And Measures 12″ H, and 6″ W, 1/4 wide. That Told me I had a Valuable Piece. Antique Folk Art Painted Wooden Groceries Sign Lebanon Pennsylvania

A wonderfully painted wooden two sided sign advertising Groceries and Provisions. The sign is painted on an old ironing board probably maple wood, not uncommon as ironing boards made of this material did not warp and were readily available. The sign was painted by Damon Herbel Shuey: 2. Damon Herbel Shuey (6) was born July 15, 1869. In his younger years he worked at coal mines as slate-picker, in the summer and went to school in the winter. He afterwards worked in brick yards, in steel works, saw mills and other hard work. He afterwards took up sign painting and is considered very good. Corner Spruce and Guilford Streets is his residence. The sign is from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Amazing that he signed the piece and to have specific provenance on a hand painted sign is rare. The sign is in excellent condition with more wear to one side as expected form an outdoor sign. As stated painted on a wooden ironing board, 63 1/4″ long x 11 3/4″ wide and 7/8 thick.
