19th Century Watercolor Painting Primitive Folk Art Amish Man with Sticks & Dog. Pleased to offer a 19th century watercolor on paper with great subject matter and colors. Man with his dog in rural work clothes carrying a bundle of sticks accompanied by his dog. Beautiful large old Birch tree near by. Perhaps he was gathering his sticks from the tree. In the background there is a home with a small pond nearby and other men wearing Amish hats. Wonderful colors and warm sepia and red, black tones to this painting. Frame measures a large 21 3/4 inches height and 17 1/4 inch width. Condition overall is good. But it does have some age-related wear and losses. Painting has a tear on upper right but seems stable. A spot on upper left. Frame shows wear and some loss on corners. The paper on the back has tears. At the top you can see an old wood backing in place. Please view all the photos. Overall stable piece with great character and charm! Please take a look at many new items added daily. E9Art (aka eric) has been a typesetter, tire changer, the coffee dude, that pizza guy, and a full-time artist. Eric didn’t’discover’ art until he was in his 50s, partially due to the idea that he couldn’t be an artist being colorblind, and partially that he was raised in an environment where art was considered a waste of time because’art doesn’t put food on the table. Original Signed Primitive Oil Painting on Masonite Board. Painted by Robert Cliff in January, 1995. Highly stylized depiction of horse and cowboy. HIs subjects exceptionally developed chest, arms and legs contrast with their tiny head and waist. Many of my customers have found his work to be erotic. Robert Cliff was a prolific painter with a focused on western scenes, the Civil War and Explorers of the frontier. He worked for the Postal Service and traveled extensively. He passed away this year. He resided in Madison, WI. His unconventional work leaves a lasting impression on those who have viewed it. Painting is 16″ by 20″. I plan to list more of his work this weekend.
