ANTIQUE PAINTED FOLK ART WALL COMB BOX! PA, circa late 19th early 20th century. An outstanding folk art comb wall box in original chrome yellow with red and green trim, hearts with 6 point stars, and lucky horseshoe shapes inside the red hearts, Bulls eyes in green and red with green and white polka dots overall. This is by far the most elaborately, folky painted box of this group of boxes by the same maker. The only apology is one of the up pointing arrows was broken off a long time ago and some minor splitting of the wood and minor abrasions to paint (see photos). The paint is in excellent condition for its age! I have owned this one for some time. A similar example by the same maker is currently listed on e-bay. This one is signed on the back by E. It held the washbowl and pitchers as well as a chamber pot on the lower shelf. This was the bathroom of its day. The side “handles” are not handles, but are in fact, towel bars used for the drying of hand towels. This grain paint is often called “smoke” decoration and is often seen in Pennsylvania Antiques. Condition: Excellent Well Cared for Antique Heirloom Condition. Finish does have alligatoring and minor blemishes that only add to the patina look of this piece. It is sturdy and has no scratches. Antique Painted Folk Art Wall Comb Box Lancaster County, Pa. Circa late 19th cen. A wonderful folk art comb box in original dark green paint with red polka dots. A small group of these wall boxes, all very similar in form and pattern of decoration, are likely from a single maker in the Lancaster County, Pa region during the late 19th century. In fine original condition having, with the exception of one tiny brad. No restoration or repair. The paint has a lovely, very fine overall cracklature yet is not flaking. I’ve include a photo of another box by the same maker for reference, this listing is for the dark green box with red dots. Satisfaction guaranteed, original and as represented.
