Antique Folk Art Picture Frame, Hand Woven One-Of-A-Kind Tramp Art Primitive

I’m not sure how best to describe this antique picture frame because there is nothing quite like it. Sister has owned it for years; it is completely hand crafted and very likely one-of-a-kind. Best described as a piece of folk art or tramp art, this intricate piece dates from the early 1900’s and possibly late 1800’s. The back of the frame, easel, and picture surround are hand-carved walnut (the back has a raised panel). The basket weave and hand-woven front of the frame combines several materials – possibly reed, wicker, straw, and/or??? Sister will take lots of close-ups but feel free to ask questions or request additional pictures of any area or material. The only condition issue is not very noticeable and can be viewed in the last picture – a small braided foot has separated from the basket-weave leg. The little foot is still attached but the picture shows the separation. This is the ONLY apology! Otherwise, all is in excellent condition – even the little dangles hanging by tiny braided chains are all there. Everything is strong, tight, and beautifully finished…. A real credit to this early maker. The frame measures 15 inches tall and 10-1/4 inches across. The picture opening from the back is 6-1/2 X 4-1/2 inches and 4X6 at the front. I think it would also look great with a small mirror. It does not have glass. This unique frame would pair nicely with a variety of styles – mission, arts & crafts, country, even…. Presented in excellent condition. There are virtually no losses to the chip carving. There are a couple of small nicks to the edges of this piece. This is extremely minimal and in no way detracts from this piece whilst on display. The original glass is in great condition, as is the original photograph. Both the cardboard backing and the nails holding it in place remain strong. The original hanging chord, although yellowed with age still remains strong. It displays absolutely beautifully!! RARE antique TRAMP ART folk art curvilinear design picture frame UNUSUAL folky

This antique American tramp art picture frame takes a very unusual and folky shape, rather than using endless rows of rectangular pyramids as most often seen. The maker had a really fine sense of design! Instead of the typical diagonal notches in square-edged layers, these edges are beveled and grooved, creating a fluted effect. The old original shiny varnish is somewhat blistered, forming an attractive patina. There is a rare and perfectly intact carved wooden hanger at top. Although missing several tip pieces, it presents and displays very well, the losses long since oxidized to blend in. Be sure to look carefully at the pictures. The frame is 9 1/2″ x 8″ with a 5 1/2″ x 4″ opening. Main photo shows the truest colors. Antique Early American Folk Art Portrait handsome Man Empire Picture Frame 1840

This nicely preserved historic oil on canvas portrait of a handsome, 20-something man check out the eyebrows! With pleasant, subtle smiling facial expression and tousled hair with near spit curls is housed in its original mahogany on pine frame retaining original varnish and measures 30 1/4″ x 26 1/8″ overall; 26″ x 22″ actual. The subject is depicted with his arm casually draped over the back of an empire side chair and engaging the viewer with the frankness and piercing dark brown eyes. The work has stable paint with some very small pinpoint spots of loss in the background and the surface of the painting is fairly dirty with no obvious inpaint. It has an early 20th century re-lining and is mounted to its original stretchers. I added the modern steel clips as the bent nails previously employed were loose and a potential threat to the canvas. It comes from a Massachusetts family collection and the identity of the sitter is unknown.
