Authentic Early 20thC ENGLISH PUB SIGN Sand Painted Folk Art BENSKINS COW ROAST. From an extensive collection upstate, NY. Fantastic original early 20thC English Pub Sign, possibly from the Cow Roast Inn. Painted for Benskins Beer as well. Wonderful hand painted graphic of a hand turning a spit with a cow roasting over an open fire. Is sand painted / has a sand texture similar to other of that era. Solid cast iron frame with several layers of paint. I have no idea how this got to upstate, NY. Quite a fascinating piece. Sign (framed) measures approximately. 30.25″ by 37 7/8″. The loops for hanging at top extend another 1.75. As you can see, the sign has a split in the board and some significant loss to one side. Paint wear commensurate with age.
