Early Aafa Antique Folk Art Miniature Trunk Hand Painted Horse Red Square Nails

EARLY AAFA ANTIQUE DOLL TRUNK DOME TOP MINIATURE TRUNK HAND PAINTED SQUARE NAILS. Up for sale is this wonderful miniature antique wood steamer child’s or doll trunk. The trunk has a painted dome top with painted accents on the front, sides and back. Perhaps this was a dowry trunk? ! The trunk is a green color with red, white, black and other reddish accents. The lid is a round-top / dome-top. The lid’s hinges are not original and were replaced at some point as you can see in the pictures. There is a large crack in the lid, which most likely split from drying out over the years. Some edge wear, scrapes, patina, fading, variation of color, wood showing through, chipping, holes and nicks. This is a testament to its age and character. Obviously, it has survived for years and was very well made! On the front of the trunk there is a small metal hasp for a latch but there is no latch or lock any more. The trunk has square nails in it as you can see in the bottom. On the left front side at the bottom, there’s a piece of wood missing and there’s a good-sized square nail as you can see in the pictures. The nails in the top are smaller and look like rose-head nails to us, they are somewhat round but rusty and gnarly. Where you can see more of the sides of the nails you can tell that they are square nails. It measures about 17.25″ L x 9.5″ W x 9 H. It weighs about 6 lbs. AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE PULL TOY WOOD HORSE ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED BLACK. Up for sale is this wonderful wooden toy horse. He’s fully painted. His body is a black color while his saddle blanket is a grey linen backed material. He has a dark red, dry leather? Harness and hand painted red bridle, white eyes and red nostrils. He has a patch of white where his mane was and a little white thing for a tail. He’s in OK condition and has some scrapes, paint loss, nicks and wear. His ears are a little dinged up and one ear is missing a piece of wood. He’s on a pull toy base with iron wheels that are inside the wood. This makes him pretty old. His base is a wood base with red filigree trim. The wheels are black. He’s a cute horse with a great attitude!! As you’d expect, there are scuffs and paint loss, nicks, dings, edge wear, smudges and patina! He measures 10.25″ long x 3.75″ wide (at the base). EARLY AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE BLUE TABLE TOP PIE SAFE OLD ORIGINAL PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful old tabletop pie safe. It’s old and adorable! It’s a nice Primitive blue color with old, rusty screens. It’s got tons of character! It has an old wire metal latch that hooks from the door in to an little loop on the side and holds the door shut. It has a nicely scalloped top trim piece and inside there is one shelf. The inside is not painted except for a few paint drips. There’s even a little knothole / mouse hole on the back. They must have been good pies! The back was made from old crates! It’s a wondeful blue color with lots of patina, paint loss, edgewear, nicks, scrapes and overall wear. The blue paint has been lightly sealed or waxed as you can see in the pictures. We anticipate they were trying to preserve the color and the finish. It has a lot of old rusty nails on it. We see a couple that might be square nails, but most of them are old round nails. It’s not perfect but then again, it is! It measures 27″ H x 17″ W x 7.75 D. It weighs 12 lbs. ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND PAINTED SLIDE-TOP BOX, after RUFUS PORTER GOOD COND. AAFA

Offered here, a really great example of an American mid-19th century hand painted/decorated slide top box. THIS IS NOT A JACOB WEBER BOX. Lavishly hand painted/decorated on 5 sides, this box maintains its structural integrity including all of its original hand cut nails. I can find only one tiny later round head nail. This box measures 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 x 5 1/8. The design analog for the decoration on this box is probably the decorative work of Rufus M. Porter, a prolific wall muralist among many other things. Indeed this may be his work or the work of his shop. Porters work will suggest the design of this box. This box is constructed of clear straight grain pine. The inside is clean as is the bottom which may display the dual brush stroke of the particular painter who created it. As you can see from the photos there are losses to the paint in various places, made more visible by the exposure of the underlying white gesso. This box is in its original dry surface with no amendment or alteration that I can see. It does not look to me as if it were ever used for anything except sitting on a surface and being enjoyed for its scenery. Of course, it was found near New England. Antique 1880s New England Folk Art Carved Painted Puzzle Balls Cage Whimsy aafa

Woodcarving has been a popular art form in the United States since Europeans immigrated to North America in the 1600s and brought their trade along with them. In the 1700s, hand carvers began to build highly decorative wooden furniture. By the mid1800s, hand carving as a business venture began to decline when carving machines offered greater production at a lower cost. Many hand carvers turned to “Whimsies” projects as an art form. We are pleased to offer this Antique Carved Wooden Paint Decorated Folk Art Balls in a Puzzle Cages Whimsy from New England circa 1880s for your consideration. The Wooden Carved Whimsy has intricate carved workmanship and was carved by a master woodworker. The Wooden Carved Whimsy has two separate cages. The top cage is of rectangular shape and retains a green painted original surface. The wooden puzzle ball is painted white. The bottom cage of the Wooden Carved Whimsy is also painted green with a larger red wooden puzzle ball inside of the rectangular cage. Both of the rectangular cages sit on a turned paint decorated base with a large metal spike. The age of the whimsy can be seen by the dry age crack in the wooden base. The whimsy is strong and sturdy and is not affected by the dry age crack at the base which only adds character and authenticity to the Antique Folk Art. The Balls in the Cages Whimsy was carved from a single piece of wood and the base was turned from a separate piece of wood. The Wooden Carved Whimsy is in excellent condition and has age appropriate patina. 21 Inches High, 5 Inches Wide, and 5 Inches Deep. Aafa Antique Folk Art Wood Child’s Sled Original Blue Paint Christmas

AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART WOOD CHILD’S SLED ORIGINAL BLUE PAINT CHRISTMAS. Up for sale is this amazing child’s sled. This is such a cute sled!! It’s a ligth blue and it’s a sled you (or small kids years ago would) sit on while wooshing down the snow! The runners are metal and this little sled is heavy for its size. We don’t recommend that you use this for your kids to downhill sled on, however, we do think it would make a great Teddy Bear display item or perhaps a Santa display for Christmas! The upper part is wood and it’s a worn light blue. The bottom rails are wonderfully shaped to plow through the snow. They are wrapped with metal and there’s a metal crossbar underneath also. On the back on the deck there’s some damage to the wood. There are holes in the front of the runners for a rope but there’s no rope. It’s in great condition for its age. The paint is all rough and worn as you can see in the pictures. As you’d expect, there are scuffs and paint loss, rust, paint drips, fading, scrapes, scratches, nicks, cracks, dings, worn off edges, edge wear, smudges, and patina! What a great look!! It’s been well-loved and probably has lots of miles of downhill slides on it!! We’re not really sure how you steer (probably with your feet off the back) it so we hope whoever had it was hanging on! Aafa Antique Folk Art 13 Drawer Wood Apothecary Green Cabinet Alligator Paint

AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART 13 DRAWER WOOD APOTHECARY GREEN CABINET ALLIGATOR PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful 13 drawer spice or apothecary cabinet. It has 1 large drawer underneath and 12 little upper smaller drawers. The bottom drawer is the bottom of the cabinet. The cabinet has little brass drawer pulls. The color is a painted green drawer faces and cabinet frames are a deep brown, almost black color top trim of the cabinet, the sides and around the drawers. It makes it very nice looking. The green paint is alligatored and old as you can see in the pictures. The miter joint at the upper trim at the left side of the cabinet has a little gap in it and is not as right as the miter on the right side of the cabinet. This doesn’t detract from the look as you can see. The whole cabinet measures 12″ W (main cabinet) x 3.25″ D (main cabinet) x 14 H (overall). The drawers are painted on the outside and are unpainted on the inside. The drawers each measure. 1 Large Drawer at bottom: 9″ W x 3″ D x 2 H (inside dims). 12 Smaller Drawers: 2.75″ W x 2.25″ D x 1.25″ – 2.25″ D. It is a wonderful and one of a kind! The back is old wood and we don’t see any square nails but there are a bunch of rusty little nails. It’s a cute sized. Cabinet and has to hooks on the back so it can be hung on the wall. It would not likely be set on top of a cabinet because the bottom drawer is the bottom of the cabinet. It’s very cute and not something you’ll see again soon. We don’t know the age of this item but it looks early 20th century to us. There are nicks, scrapes, dings and worn / alligatored paint as you can see in the pictures but nothing you wouldn’t expect from an item of this age. We will do our best to answer your questions. AAFA ANTIQUE EARLY FOLK ART 1800’s ORIGINAL PAINT LIGHT BLUE WOOD DRY SINK. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive dry sink. It’s a smaller-sized single door cabinet. It’s a wonderful old dry Primitive light blue color (almost a robin’s egg blue or powder blue) with green and wood undertones where the paint has pealed or chipped off. The paint appears to be all original and is very dry, alligatored, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn and patina-ed! Please expect some paint chips at the bottom of the box when you receive it. We will carefully package this item. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look!! It’s an old dry sink. The door opens has an old wooden thumb twist to hold the door shut and a small pull to pull it open. Inside there is a bottom to the cabinet and that’s painted a soft yellow. The door has old heavy shaker style hinges with slotted screws. You could leave the doors open and display crocks, or firkins or other wonderful items. The paint has some edge wear, scrapes, patina, fading, variation of color, wood showing through, chipping and nicks. Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close-up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! The cabinet measures 35.75 W x 16″ D x 27.75″ H. The well inside measures. 34.5 W x 14.25″ D x 3.5″ H. The wood is thick, 13/16″ thick (a little more than 3/4″ thick)!! Thank you for your understanding. This is a great dry sink!
