Original Arthur Glazier Folk Art Reverse Glass Oil Painting British Sailing Ship

Much of Glazier’s folk art was painted on wood, so this is an unusual medium for him. The work was done in the style of an antique reverse glass painting. In the water, the artist has painted some sea creatures, including a fish, hammerhead shark, several whales, and a mermaid. I believe the piece of glass the artist used was antique, as it has some bubbles and the look of old glass. The glass is mounted in an old wooden frame that measures 25 1/2″ x 18 1/8″. The painted glass portion measures approximately 22″ x 14 1/2″. The painting is signed A. GLAZIER in the lower right corner. It’s guaranteed to be an original Arthur Glazier work of art. Arthur Glazier was originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a Graphic Artist for the Corps of Engineers in Washington, D. Where he designed the shield logo that is still in use today. He retired to East Berlin, Pennsylvania, where he painted prolifically for 35 years. Condition of this reverse glass folk art painting is EXCELLENT. There are just a few nicks of minor paint loss that are not very noticeable. The frame is also in good condition, however, I would recommend mounting the glass more securely and replacing the cardboard backing. Overall, this collectible work of art looks fantastic and displays beautifully. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. I haven’t been able to find any other examples of Glazier paintings that were done on glass, so I believe this medium was not used often. See my other listings. For more great items! Original 1990’s Haitian Painting. Original Haitian art painting for collecting and home or office decoration. Signed: Prospere Pierre Louis (BIO below). Subject: Figures, Faces, voodoo. Style: Primitivism, OusiderArt “Saint-Soleil movement”. Featured in Candice Russell “masterpieces of Haitian art”. The Saint-Soleil Movement began in 1973, under the direction of the artist TIGA (Jean Claude Garoute). TIGA provided art supplies for the self-taught artists, many of whom were peasants living in an isolated community in the mountains above Port-au-Prince. Acrylic on Canvas – Stretched. Physical Condition: Very Good The Saint Soleil group disbanded after only a few years but five of the artists, Prosper, Levoy Exil, Denis Smith, Dieuseul Paul, and Louisiane Saint Fleurant reorganized into the group “Cinq Soleils”. After years of labor Prosper’s technique greatly evolved and he become a prominent and respected member of the local art community. His flourishing career came to an abrupt end when he died prematurely of an asthma attack in November 1997. À la suite de son voyage en 1975 en Haïti, qui sera aussi son dernier, André Malraux décide de consacrer un chapitre entier de son livre L’intemporel – la Métamorphose des Dieux édité chez Gallimard en 1976 au mouvement Saint Soleil. Évidemment l’ouvrage contribue de manière foudroyante à la reconnaissance mondiale de ces artistes perdus au milieu d’Haïti. Malraux illustre une pleine page de son livre avec une ouvre de Levoy Exil et ose même écrire page 330 Picasso voulait que ses tableaux du Palais des Papes atteignissent la liberté qu’atteint celui de Levoy Exil parce que le peintre haïtien ignore la peinture des autres. Mais ces tableaux d’Avignon sont manifestement des ouvres professionnelles du XXe siècle postérieures au cubisme, et dont la frénésie d’échapper à l’art appartient à celui-ci, alors que le peintre haïtien ne tente pas d’échapper à un englobant qu’il ignore.
