We are offering an original American. 19th century folk art painted and hand carved wood full bodied running horse weathervane. Stands 18″ tall x 22 1/2″ long at the most extreme points, with a maximum width of 2 1/4. We found this great old piece in a longtime collector’s estate in Los Angeles; we were told by the family that he bought it at an Americana Antiques show from a folk art dealer years ago, but we have no other information available. In very good condition. The traces of white and brown paint appear to be all original. Light overall wear commensurate with age. There is one 3/4″ x 1 1/4″ surface gouge to the left upper hind quarter section The lower part of the back right leg has been broken and is missing. Originally had a mane and tail. Old stapled repair at the muzzle across. Please study the photos as they are a part of the description. Offered here fresh out of an estate for the first time at no reserve. Offering a late 19th century oil on board portrait painting of a young girl in the naive taste. Discovered in Northwest Connecticut, this primitive piece displays a beautiful child in period dress holding a butterfly in her left hand as she points to it with her right hand; accompanying her is a cute dog with an urn to their right, all nestled between flowers; in the background a colonial fenced house, along with trees and birds. Incredible piece that still retains bright colors. Dimensions: frame – 11″ x 13″; sight – 8″ x 10″. There is what appears to be the remnants of a gold leaf paint line, in the form of an arch, at the top of the painting (see last two pictures). It may have been to outline the top of the painting? 19th Century Handwritten Watercolor Folk Art Painting Lord’s Prayer The Creed

I wish I knew more about this and it doesn’t have a date but I’ve seen enough of this kind of work to know it’s from the early to mid 1800’s. All of it is hand done from the writing to the hand colored design. Plus there’s a beautiful tiny castle in the center of the writing. At the top it says “The Lord’s Prayer” and in the center it says, “The Creed”. You need a magnifying glass to read it but that only adds to it’s charm and rarity. The entire piece measures 2 1/4″ x almost 3 3/4″. Other than a bit of foxing it’s in good shape. Offering a wonderful 11 7/8 tall (excluding handle), early to mid 19th century, round wooden firkin in early, worn, pumpkin painted surface, with lots of character and age appropriate wear. The firkin is an awesome example, with a 1 1/8″ – 7/8″ tapering bentwood bail handle, staved construction, 4 bentwood bands with elongated “fingers” secured with handmade rosehead type nails. It is a beautiful, early firkin with a wonderful and worn painted surface. Nice simple form and lines… DIMENSIONS – 11 7/8 high to top of lid, approx. 17 3/8″ high to top of handle, 11 3/8″ diameter lid, 11 7/8 diameter bottom. The bowl is a beautiful thick example, with a 1/2″ wide outer top rim band and a 1/8″ chamfered outer top edge.
