Vibrant & bold, this bears the hallmarks of a sign or house painter by trade. Likely created by an itinerant artist & very reminiscent of John Kane’s early work. Painted from the hillside the view extends over an early Pennsylvania Railroad bridge, beyond a farm and to the steamboats on the water. Identified Salt Run Ohio faintly bottom right, which presumably refers to Warren County. One-inch thick scrap wood panel w/ case constructed frame (remarkably it appears to be made from the same board) like a trade sign. Measures 12 x 19″ (14 x 21″ overall) w/ remnants of a keystone logo top rail. Chipping to silver painted frame does not detract.
