Antique Folk Art Oil Painting, Landscape with House, Lake, Boats. This American primative school oil painting depicts a charming scene, undoubtedly painted from life, of an old house on a wooded and rocky promontory overlooking a lake. The oil is painted on some type of artist board. Painted by a “Sunday artist” as they called the amateur folk painters, perhaps the owner of the house. I had the painting reframed with a quality wooden frame appropriate to its character. The backing is conservation quality. Sight: 11 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. Frame: 15′ x 12.

Frame measures 30 x 26. Frame is in very good condition, slight wear, mainly to corners. Art is in great condition, small scrape top left. Great color and image.

Nice painting by I’m guessing by a local Midwest Kansas artist. I picked up 3 by this artist at a local estate sale. One has a sticker on back saying it is acrylic. So I’m guessing the 2nd one I listed may be also. This one is water color. There are tiny dots on the painting. They are from water color paint. Is this a water color artistic technique or a new artist error? Framed it is about 16.5″ tall and 29″ wide. Visible canvas is about 9″x 21″ wide. RARE Antique 1880s FOLK ART painting of BORDER or CAIRN TERRIER Dog on Porcelain
I offer this rare and wonderful one of a kind piece from my personal collection. I have been collecting since the 1980’s and have owned this since about 1996. I bought two plates by the same artist that day, and one was unfortunately damaged in a move. I have shown the more descriptive back signature of the broken one in the last photo for reference as to date. It is in the last photo with “Circus Day, April 30, 1884″ on the back. This is about 140 years old! As you can see, it is a hand painted beautifully done painting of a Cairn Terrier or Border Terrier with a rabbit in it’s mouth. The expression in it’s eye as it appears to be looking up at it’s master is priceless! The clouds are beautifully done in soft colors. It has a bit of impressionist style to it. Shropshire of Lexington Kentucky on a quality Haviland Limoges porcelain blank. The mark on the blank is mark F dating from 1876 -1889. This painter was quite skilled, and it is so much nicer than those mass-produced transfer designs! A must see, and you will never see another exactly like it! Measures 10 in diameter and is in perfect condition. The dark spot on the pale blue rim is simply a drop of paint under the glaze when originally created. This is an original painting, and not a transfer print. Easy to hang on the wall with a plate hanger, or display on a shelf. Perfect for a Terrier lover! This piece is so wonderful, I really wouldn’t mind keeping it, but I have offered it for sale to fellow Terrier lovers. Please view the photos, and feel free to ask any questions.
