Mose Tolliver – Folk Art, Outsider Artist. This is one of Mose Tolliver’s hard-to-find flower paintings. It is 16″ x 16 1/2″, house paint/acrylic on salvaged wood with his own hanging tab on the rear. It is in very good condition although has imperfections associated with folk art. Mose Tolliver, born in in Alabama, is one of the more celebrated self taught artists from the south. He was a prolific artist who work steadily until around the time he died in 2006. His work has been exhibited extensively in the US and around the world since his first solo exhibition in 1981. In 1982 his work was included in the influential folk art exhibition “Black Folk Art In America, 1930 – 1980″ at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Since then his work has been acquired by many museums including the Smithsonian. I loved Mose T’s work and acquired this work in the early 2000’s from a collector who bought it directly from Mose T. It is hard to find paintings of his flowers – the colors are lovely. The item “Mose Tolliver, Flower Folk Art Outsider Artist” is in sale since Saturday, July 31, 2021.
