Andrzej Galek COSSACK AND BEAR Polish Reverse Glass Folk Art Painting 1960s. Mid Century painting on glass by artist Andrzej Galek depicting folklore from Poland Old Region of Tatra Mountains, a Cossack man killing a bear threatening a woman and her flock of sheep. Galek, at lower bottom left of painting. Wood framed entire piece measures 11″high x 12 7/8″wide. Very good condition, frame shows wear. Andrzej Galek, was a Polish artist and architect, sometimes known as Andrew Knob. Ocumicho Mask Mexican Wood carving Masks Folk Art OCUMICHO MASK: It is approximately 10 inches in length and 7 inches in width (with ears approximately 15.5 inches in width). Beautifully hand painted mask with salamanders on each side. Ocumicho is located in the mountainous forests of the Meseta Tarasca in the central part of the state of Michoacan. Ocumicho is an indigenous Purepecha community of 6000 people, organized as bienes comunales (common lands). Though Ocumicho’s primary economic base is forestry, subsistence agriculture and handcrafts, Ocumicho people have made clay sculptures, toys, erotic figures, banks and colorful masks since the regime of Bishop Quiroga in the 1530s. The Quiroga tradition continues today, and the village occupies an important place in regional barter and commercial markets. The ocumicho masks are renowned for they are unique animal designs, colorful and detailed handpainted. This unique piece have lots of detail. Each piece is unique because hand crafted individually.
