Antique Ca. 1800 Folk Art Portrait of Woman Coral Necklace Painting
Description & Condition: Up for sale is this antique circa 1800 small folk art portrait painting of a woman. She is wearing a dress with ruffled sleeves and lace collar. There is a gold chain with oval pendant and a double strand coral necklace on her neck and she has gold hoop earrings. It measures 8″ by 6 1/4″ sight size and is in an antique gilt wood frame. It is in fair condition with a water stain along the bottom and should be removed from the frame. It is under glass so there are reflections in the photos showing soiling on the underside of the glass. The frame measures 12″ by 10″ and has losses to the gesso. Antique Figural Hound Dog handpainted die cut Folk Art Tavern or Trade Sign
Antique 19th C Trade Sign. This is an awesome 19th C English Tavern or Trade sign. 16 at widest point. The backing is wood and then it is built up or layered with what appears to be Gesso or some sort of composite material, that has then been painted. The Dog is dimensional and has texture. He is beautifully painted and the photos do not do him justice. There are no marks on the Sign anywhere. Note there are 4 small chips and some crazing and cracking which only make him more handsome! 1820’s CLASSIC MOURNING PAINTING FOLK ART Historic DALRYMPLE Mass. FAMILY
This is an outstanding and dramatic folk art mourning watercolor painting in its original period gold leaf frame. Memorialized are members of of tne Dalrymple family of Massachussetts: Sally age 9 who died April 7, 1810 (of spotted fever I discovered); William age 30 who died Dec. 14, 1811 (while traveling to Quebec); Henry age 29 years who died May 22, 1814 (of bullet wounds while serving in the United States Army in the War of 1812); and Ann 27 years old who died Sept. 5, 1825 (of Dysentary). There is a note at the bottom of the painting indicating that the information was provided by Eliza Dalrymple their youngest sister – who became a teacher in Marlborough, Mass. I quickly found the historical information on the internet in the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan. By the way, Henry was a cooper in Watertown, Mass.
