Rare Folk Art Painted Large Primitive Butt Egg Basket w 54 Ribs. Measures a large 18″ inches from side to side and 14″ inches tall. Bottom is 15 inches wide. Handle has red and white stripes. Body and inside of the basket has painted red and white stripes. Incredible 54 ribs on this early example. Nice old patina on this antique primitive, folk art, painted egg butt basket. From rural North Carolina or Southern Virginia. Not sure how old it is but would guess late 1800’s to early 1900’s from the style, look, shape, patina. Hard to find these old buttermilk paint egg baskets with real age. Good condition with some damage to the weaving on the bottom in one spot as pictured. Just thinning out my collection of them some.
