What you see is what you get with Ziegner and this work is a great example of this artistic purity. With this painting a great American farm is depicted in all its natural beauty. The skies are vivid and real. There is no sense that the artist tried to enhance the scene he was painting and you have artistic clarity – and classic folk art! This is a great find. After Harry Roseland Large Oil Painting O/C Folk Art Black Fortune Teller Genre
No signature can be found on this painting and it is in original, as found condition with a soiled varnish layer but no apparent losses to paint surface, aside from three small scratches in upper third. A good representation of one of Roseland’s most famous subjects (“Mixing The Love Potion”) probably from the early 1900’s. Through the publication of “Sunday supplement” prints, Roseland’s genre work in this series became very well known and reached thousands of home viewers, inspiring imitation by many amateur artists. This is one such work. I have owned and enjoyed this work for more than thirty years and now offer it for sale for the first time. Texas country Bluesman Sam “Lightnin'” Hopkins has always been a huge inspiration for me, the epitome of a Master Bluesman… And, my most favorite. And, honestly, like all my work… Folks near always say this original painting is really far better in person. Its’ just real tough to get an adequate photo here in the Florida sun & humidity, and color tone, detail & nuance often suffers.
