Since 1982, Bryans Gallery has represented exceptional artistry of the Southwest and the Eight Northern Pueblos. We have estate and contemporary. Paintings, sculpture, pottery, Zuni fetishes, rugs and baskets. Some of the finest rare examples of Southwestern American Indian arts and craft can be found in our gallery, a brick and mortar building in Taos, New Mexico. Our staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Hopi Folk Art Mask by Gregory Lomayesva: hand-carved, hand-painted wood with feathers, hangs on a wall or sits on a flat surface. X 23 1/4 x 5 1/2. Gregory Lomayesva’s career began the old fashioned way with an idea and a pile of moxie. Dropping out of high school at the age of seventeen to pursue his art full-time, he landed his first job as a gallery assistant at one of Santa Fe’s prestigious showrooms. His cultural background now came into play. Of Hispanic ancestry on his mother’s side and Native American -Hopi- on his father’s side, Lomayesva began to reflect on his heritage and how it encircled him His introspection is evident in this fusion art. His woodworking pieces are bright and inventive and are a reflection of his own personal identification with and interpretation of his culture. The use of a particular image in a composition is a visual representation of a different feeling I’m having. It’s like emotional shorthand, says Gregory. He combines his love of historical western art themes and contemporary Indian art. Gregory has produced two albums of electronic pop music on his label Drip Records. He has also produced several short films. His invitation to exhibit in thirty countries, and repeat showings at the Smithsonian American Indian Museum and the Heard Museum make this artist worth watching. 2009 “Fusion” at Bryans Gallery, Taos, NM. 2009 National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian, Washington, D. 2009 Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ. 2008 “Muse” at Gerbert Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA. 2008 “Bounce” at Ursa Gallery, Santa Fe, NM. 2006 “More Indian” at Winterrowd Fine Art, Santa Fe, NM. 2006 ” The Art of War” at Art & Industry, Santa Fe, NM. 2005 ” You Can Breathe Now” at J. OFFERED HERE IS A SUPER RARE AND ANTIQUE BASEBALL BAT. THIS BAT IS CRICA 1870’S-80’S AND IS WHAT THEY CALLED A HIGH END “FANCY BAT”. PECK & SNYDER HAD SEVERAL ADS AS WELL AS OTHER EARLY COMPANIES FOR FANCY BATS WHICH WERE HIGH PRICED BATS THAT CAME PAINTED, AND WITH PAINTED RINGS, WITH CUSTOM INCISED RINGS AND ROUNDED KNOBS. THIS ONE HAS ALL THESE QUALITIES AND I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE OR TWO LIKE IT IN 27 YEARS OF COLLECTING. THIS IS A MAROON PAINTED BAT OVER ORIGINAL WOOD PATINA AND THE BAT IS A RING BAT WHICH NORMALLY PREDATES THEM TO PRIOR TO 1900. THE BAT KNOB IS A VERY RARE ROUND KNOB WITH AN INCISED CARVING IN THE CENTER SIMILAR TO ONES ADVERTISED VERY EARLY ON. THE BAT HAS TWO PORTIONS OF BLACK RINGS ONE ON THE HANDLE AND KNOB AND ONE ON THE VERY TIP. THIS EARLY TROPHY TYPE BAT ALSO HAS ALMOST A WAVED WOOD GRAINING THAT I TRIED TO PUT IN THE PICTURES BUT MY CAMERA IS OLD. THE BAT MEASURES 29 INCHES AND IS IN GORGEOUS CONDITION WITH NO CRACKS AND SOLID GORGEOUS PATINA. THIS VINTAGE BASEBALL BAT IS JUST MY FAVORITE. YOU HAVE THE FOLK ART BASEBALL STYLE TROPHY BAT, THE DUAL RINGS ON EITHER END AND THE WAVING GRAIN AND THE INCISED ROUND KNOB. IT SIMPLY HAS EVERYTHING AND STUNNING. IT IS ALSO PROBABLY 130-150 YEARS OLD SO DOES HAVE NORMAL WEAR. DOES HAVE A FEW MARKS AND DENTS ON BARREL BUT AGAIN IT IS 100 PLUS YEAR OLD BAT. THE PAINT IS GORGEOUS AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BAT IS ORIGINAL AND GUARANTEED ANTIQUE. The item “1870’s FOLK ART STYLE PAINTED RING BASEBALL BAT- L@@K” is in sale since Sunday, October 20, 2019.
