This folky / primitive style painting that. Is very interesting because the perspective is not quite right however you can see Charleston Harbor in the back ground and the church steeples. Moultree is to the right as well as the Merrimack Submarine. There is a celebration going on with all the different ships and sailing boats in the harbor. As you can see there is a large stain that comes down from the top I believe this can be removed. It is very unique painting with a very interesting and rare scene of a celebration at Fort Sumter. Here is a fantastic antique painting. Great example of Primitive folk art Super color. Bright orange, aqua accent this painting. Painted on wood which is seated in a rustic wood frame. Overall great folk look. It is very thick in areas and has cracked. There is one small area in upper left corner that has lost some paint. The rest of the paint feels very secure. 19 3/4 x 27 3/4in. With original frame 16 1/4 x 24 in. Grass The back of the painting is signed- The Gristmill art gallery in New Preston CT. The painting has a great story, pregnant mom hanging out laundry on a summer day with her children playing on the bridge. Great landscape and great color makes this painting great for decorating. Untouched surface with rich patina and traces of original paint. The date 1789 carved en verso, the date is under the patina/paint and not through it (important to note).
