Mid 20th Century Oil Flocking Flamingos
Mid 20th Century Oil – Flocking Flamingos. A charming and highly decorative oil in a naive style showing a group of elegant flamingos, gathered in shallow waters under a dramatic darkened sky. The painting is presented in a gilt frame. There is an impasto, naive figurative portrait on the reverse. The painting has heavy paint loss across its entire surface and a light bloom on the paint. The frame has losses to the gilt at all edges. The overall effect is fortunately rustic. Size: 21 x 57cm (8.3″ x 22.4″). Includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Henry E. Foster (1921-2010) Mid 20th Century Oil, Village Street Scene
Well presented in a dark wood frame with gilt effect detail. The condition is typical for a picture of this age. With some minor discolouration and surface dirt. Marks and abrasions to the substrate, most noticeably to the upper left corner. Scuffs to the frame. From a fine collection of varied and diverse works by the artist Henry E. He worked in a variety of mediums, including oil, watercolour, collage and pastel. His style ranges from traditional studies to modern compositions. His parents were both musical, and Henry began to paint at the age of eight. Outstanding in both art and mathematics, he studied engineering drawing at Royal Enfield, and went on to attend the Central Technical College, Birmingham in 1942, where he excelled. Gaining a local reputation as an artist, he often appeared with his paintings in the Works Magazine. He rarely parted with his own works, often reworking them, except in cases of commisions. Holding strong views on many painters, he didn’t like the Pre-Raphaelites. A real animal lover, his work includes country scenes, churches, and depictions of the area around Hopwood, Worcestershire. Working in a variety of media, sketching in charcoal, he often used a combined approach, painting many pictures several times. At the age of 55, he took early retirement to devote his life to painting. You can view our full collection of these here. Size: 59 x 88cm (23.2″ x 34.6″). Framed Size: 67 x 96cm (26.4″ x 37.8″). Early 20th Century Folk Art Hand Carved Wood Dog Spaniel Sculpture Painted
Here is a wonderful early carved wood painted dog that looks like a spaniel. Ive had this for quite a while and I have never cleaned it. Its dirty and dusty and it looks just the way it did when I found it. The hind leg in the last picture needs to be reattached which can be done very easily with a little wood glue. The dogs left ear is a little loose so youll need to be careful when moving it. That too is a quick and easy fix. This is a really great carving thats at the very least 100 years old. The detail is unbelievable and the paint and the patina is perfect. Its just an amazing piece of folk that should be enjoyed by a true dog lover. A fantastic example of early American folk art. A primitive painted parcheesi game board. Painted on an old cutting board. Likely dates to the first quarter of the 20th century. Old and original paint and patina. No paint in the cracks. The cracks visible are separations in the joints of the board. It would be an easy fix if someone chose to re-glued the joints. Please examine the pics carefully. They tell the story. Measures 17″ by 19″. The item “Great Early 20th Century Painted Wood Parcheesi Folk Art Game Board” is in sale since Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
