EARLY ANTIQUE AAFA FOLK ART PRIMITIVE WOODEN BABY DOLL CRADLE (c1800) ORIG PAINT SQUARE NAILS DOVETAILED. Up for sale is this wonderful old, 19th-century baby cradle. We don’t know how old but most of these we have seen are from the 1800’s. This one might be earlier that that!! It’s wood, it’s dovetailed, it has wooden pegs, it has big honking square nails and it’s just adorable! The wooden pegs are in the bottom of the crib and go in to the rockers. The big square nails are on the end and we took a close-up of those. It’s a wonderful aged-old greenish paint on the outside and a worn wood dark stained on the inside. There is some edge wear, paint loss, nicks, broken dovetails, cracks, scrapes, splatters, scratches, dings and patina. The top round part of the cradle has a crack in it as you can see, as does the side of the tall part. The side part has pulled away slightly from the crib at the crack. At the footboard there’s also a couple of cracks and the top part is a bit wiggly if you mess with it but it is still well attached. The cradle leans a little to the left as you can see from the end. All of these “issues” are just as you’d expect from an item of this age. 41″ L x 23″ H to the top and 13″ H to the cradle x 20″ W at the rockers and 14 W at the crib. It’s a very nice piece for your collection. Thank you for looking at this item. Please look at the photos for a more accurate description and detail and ask lots of questions if needed. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. Richard Burnside Folk Art Signed
Richard Burnside Folk Art Original. Medium : Marker on Card Stock. Size : 11″ X 14″. Stored in flat file many years. Richard Burnside (1944 – 2020) was an American self-taught folk art painter known for his distinct portraiture style and use of patterns. He had lived in. But spent the last few years of his life in Georgia. Some art historians and curators believe that Burnside’s subjects are “an Africanized mythology from biblical stories, folktales, and even nursery rhymes”. He finds motifs of his paintings in other artworks and in every-day objects, from Army insignia to beer mugs and telephone poles, and has invented personal symbols that he terms his’Roman Alphabet. These symbols including spiders, snakes and other creatures most often surround his depictions of flat, round, mask-like faces, which he has seen in dreams and’coming out of the walls. He titles his frontal, staring figures kings, queens, ad priests. Burnside was known to paint on found material such as gourds, cardboard, sticks and scraps of metal, but his most common surface was thin plywood. He used enamel as a primary layer, drew his composition with a felt tip pen, and then filled in the drawing with colorful paint. He then left the completed painting on a table outside for about a day to allow the piece to weather. The typical size of Burnside’s pieces were 30″ x 30″ or smaller. Burnside’s work is in the permanent collections of the. Minneapolis Institute of Art. Smithsonian American Art Museum. He had a retrospective show at the McKissick Museum in Columbia, South Carolina in 2016. The item “Richard Burnside Folk Art Signed” is in sale since Tuesday, March 30, 2021. LORENZO SCOTT OIL PAINTING. Oil on panel, 28″ x 24″, signed (“Lorenzo Scott”) lower right; unframed, the painting mounted on a 1 3/8-deep frame base. The wood panel is 3/16″- thick, and is perhaps plywood; the frame face on which this is mounted (at several places along each edge, with finish nails) is 1 3/8″ x 1 3/8, its edge black-painted and with intermittent paint loss.
