Early 20th Century Folk Art Hand Carved Wood Dog Spaniel Sculpture Painted

Here is a wonderful early carved wood painted dog that looks like a spaniel. Ive had this for quite a while and I have never cleaned it. Its dirty and dusty and it looks just the way it did when I found it. The hind leg in the last picture needs to be reattached which can be done very easily with a little wood glue. The dogs left ear is a little loose so youll need to be careful when moving it. That too is a quick and easy fix. This is a really great carving thats at the very least 100 years old. The detail is unbelievable and the paint and the patina is perfect. Its just an amazing piece of folk that should be enjoyed by a true dog lover. DESCRIPTION Vintage Peruvian folk art retablo of a veneration festival by artist of the Andes Claudio Jimenez. Hand made using a combination of gypsum and potato this original Peruvian retablo depicts either a festival venerating the Virgen de la Candelaria or celebrating a thanksgiving harvest, and reminiscing the loss of their Inti Raymi solstice festival following the Spanish Conquest. These altar pieces are made as teaching aids as well as documenting every day life in Peru. Claudio Jimenez Quispe is an internationally renowned maker of retablos. Originally from a famous family of retablo makers in Ayacucho, he now works in Lima. His work has been exhibited all over the world, and he frequently demonstrates his exquisite technique, as at Santa Fe’s International Folk Art Market. Other siblings of this famous retablista family are Nicario, Edilberto, Eleudora and Mabilon.
