Nice! Unusual folk art TRAMP ART picture frame CARVED FLOWERS Boston Primitive

This really is a sweet little frame, and since the photographer’s imprint on the portrait mount is “Karl Muller”, probably German. While it has the typical layering and edge-notching of tramp art, what distinguishes this frame are the carved flowers growing from pots that ascend the sides. Achieved by chip-carving and other gouge- and knife-work, these bas relief panels are folky and quirky, reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch craftsmanship. Rising from urns or pots at the bottom, tall leafy stalks terminate in six-petal compass-plotted blossoms. A zigzag design decorates the bottom center, and another, more arched, crests the top. There is a tiny splinter near the top of this element where a nail to attach a hanger poked through from the back; you don’t even notice this (but full disclosure). Consequently, there is a nail head on the reverse by which to hang it. I hope my pictures communicate just how delightful is this creation. Its outside size is 9 3/4″ x 6 1/4″, opening is 6 5/15″ x 3 3/4″. The portrayed is a beguiling wench wearing about 72 layers of clothes. I can furnish more pictures if need be. [NEW] People have been asking what the back looks like, so I have added a picture (last one). This offering is for a vintage ca 1940’s to 50’s hand made folk art wooden doll figure. The young lady stands app. 17 tall and has metal post on the bottoms of her feet to put her on a stand, there is no stand. There are no makers markings. The head and torso were carved from one piece of wood, the wooden arms are jointed at the shoulders with wire and the wooden legs are attached with wire as well. She wears what appears to be her original clothing and hat, she has a purse over her arm. The workmanship is excellent and the condition is wonderful. There is minor soiling to her clothing and wear to her hat. The tip of one foot is missing. Otherwise there are no breaks or cracks and she displays beautifully. Description & Condition: Up for sale is this antique circa 1860 American folk art portrait of a woman. She is seated in a red chair and has a sheer lace wrap and bonnet. It is in very good condition and painted on a wood panel. It measures 10″ by 8″ and is in a wonderful carved and gilt wood frame with finished corners that measures 13 1/2″ by 11 1/2″. Antique Folk Art horse pull toy ca. Stands 19 1/8 tall as seen. Weighs about 11 pounds. Horse alone is 16 7/8 tall, 20 1/2 long, about 5 wide. Base is 8 3/4 wide, 20 3/4 long and 1 thick. Very fine late 19th century carved wood horse pull toy. Original leather saddle , missing stirrups. Most of the reins are also missing but still has. Four metal tacks and a leather strip behind the ears. Original black finish accentuated with white at the ankles and face. Plus a yellow outline around the saddle. Has a beautifully carved flowing mane on the right side. Real horse hair tail. Base is a single piece of 1 thick oak with cut outs for the four wooded wheels. It has a small remnant of the leather pull at the front. A few minor scuffs. Tip of its left ear was broke off and glued back on. More photos on request. Found in central Iowa. This will be carefully packed in a large box. Measuring roughly 15″ x 26″ x 26.
